PENSACOLA, Fla. – No. 6/19 UWF baseball earned its 30th win of the regular season by downing Spring Hill 8-6 Tuesday evening at Jim Spooner Field.
Dylan Menhennett finished with three hits and four RBIs.
"Any victory down the stretch here is a strong victory," said UWF head coach
Mike Jeffcoat. "Spring Hill's a much better team than when we played them early in the season. They threw a lot of different pitchers, had a lot of different looks. I was proud of the offense. Every guy in the lineup had a hit."
Dylan Mills-Derouen (2-0) earned the win after pitching into the fourth to begin a platoon effort. He allowed one run (one earned) in 3.1 innings of work. The lefty struck out three while throwing 60 pitches.
His fellow Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges alum Menhennett enjoyed a banner night. Menhennett picked up an RBI single in the third, an RBI double in the fifth, and a 2-RBI triple in the seventh.
The Argos scored four times vs. SHC relief man Tucker Powell (1-4) in the third to build a 4-0 lead. The Badgers hacked the lead to 4-3 with three runs in the top of the fourth and fifth. UWF responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth and three in the bottom of the seventh.
Tony Rossi allowed two runs in the eighth but stranded a pair of Badgers to end the frame.
Kirk Maddox left men on the corners to end the game in the ninth. The save was his first of the season.
Adam Imwalle joined Menhennett with three hits. He also scored two runs and picked up an RBI.
Trevor Payne finished with two hits to extend his streak of reaching base to 38 straight games. Four Argos enjoyed multi-hit nights. UWF outhit SHC 15-8.
UWF (30-14, 19-7 GSC) closes the regular season with a three-game set beginning Friday vs. GSC rival West Alabama (22-19, 9-15 GSC). First pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m.
