No. 8/21 Argos Open South Regional Thursday vs. Nova Southeastern

The Argos and Sharks square off at 5:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. CT

PENSACOLA, Fla. – No. 8/21 UWF baseball will open South Regional play Thursday at the University of Tampa at 5:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. CT. The Argos meet Nova Southeastern in their first game of the tournament.
 
ARGOS EARN 4-SEED IN SOUTH REGIONAL
 
* UWF baseball has earned the 4-seed in the South Region and will be at the University of Tampa May 16-18 for the South Regional.

* Tampa is the top overall seed in the South Region. Delta State earned the 2-seed and will host the the other half of the South Regional. The winner of each side of the South Regional will meet on the home campus of the highest remaining seed in the South Super Regional May 24-25.

* 5-seed Nova Southeastern and 8-seed Spring Hill join UWF Baseball on the Tampa side of the Regional. The Argonauts, who are ranked No. 3/5 in the nation currently, will open play at UT vs. 5-seed Nova at 5:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. CT Thursday. The Argonauts went 1-1 vs. the Sharks during the regular season.
 
SULLIVAN, KUCERA EARN ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT
 
* UWF baseball seniors Matt Sullivan and Tony Kucera have been named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® Baseball Team, as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

* A finance and supply chain logistics double major, Sullivan has impressed on the field and off. A First Team All-GSC selection, Sullivan is tied for second in the Gulf South Conference with 50 runs scored. He is tied for third with 17 doubles and ranks seventh in the conference with a .570 slugging percentage. He is eighth with 44 RBIs.
 
* Sullivan was also a Google Cloud Academic All-District® selection in 2018. The Orlando, Fla. native has also appeared on the GSC Academic Honor Roll.

* Kucera likewise has enjoyed an impressive season on and off the field. The lefty has earned eight wins on the mound this season, which ties him for the third-most in the conference. He is fifth in the GSC with 83 innings pitched and seventh with 20 strikeouts looking this year.
 
* The selection to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® Baseball Team is the first for the Daphne, Ala. native and Robertsdale High alum.
 
UWF NOW NO. 8/21 IN NATIONAL POLLS
 
* UWF Baseball remained in the national top 10 in this week's Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll, checking in at No. 8. The Argos are No. 21 in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll.
* UWF has now been ranked in the national top 10 in eight straight editions of the CBN poll.
 
SCOUTING NOVA SOUTHEASTERN
 
* Nova checks into the Regional as the 5-seed. The Sharks are 32-15 overall this season. UWF split a two-game series in mid-February vs. Nova, which was then-ranked No. 18 in the country.
* The Sharks are red-hot as of late, winning five in a row to end the season. The team dominated at home in 2019, going 20-3 but struggled on the road, posting a 12-12 mark.
* Duncan Pastore paces the Nova team with a .357 average. Garrett Wolforth has led the team with 11 home runs.
* Pastore has also been a star on the mound for Nova Southeastern, compiling a 2.68 ERA.
* UWF is 1-2 vs. Nova since 2016. The Argos met the Sharks in the South Regional in 2016 and fell 6-4.
