HGSC TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
OXFORD, Ala. – No. 4/10 UWF baseball will open play at the Gulf South Conference Championship Friday evening vs. eight-seed Shorter at 7:00 p.m.
The No. 4/10 Argonauts (33-14, 22-7 GSC) are the top seed at the tournament after sweeping West Alabama last weekend. West Florida has now won two regular season conference championships in the last four years.
2019 was the seventh straight season that the Argonaut program has won at least 17 games in conference play and the eighth time the program has achieved the feat under head coach
Mike Jeffcoat. UWF and Shorter (22-19, 11-14 GSC) previously met Mar. 30-31. The Argos took two of three games in the series in Pensacola vs. the Hawks.
ARGOS HEAD TO OXFORD
* This year's GSC Championship is being held at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Alabama. The state-of-the-art facility spans over 300 acres of baseball, softball and recreation fields and playgrounds.
* Other tournament contenders include Mississippi College, Delta State, Alabama Huntsville, Montevallo, Valdosta State, West Georgia and Shorter. The Argos are 13-3 vs. the field so far this year.

ARGOS COME IN AT NO. 2 IN NCAA SOUTH REGION POLL
* UWF baseball remained No. 2 in the South Region in the second week of NCAA Regional rankings.
* The Argonauts are No. 4 in the latest iteration of the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Div. II national rankings.
* The Argos are also now No. 10 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association national poll and No. 2 in the NCBWA South Region poll.
UWF BASEBALL HIGHLIGHTS POSTSEASON GSC HONORS

Mike Jeffcoat has been named Gulf South Conference Coach of the Year,
Andrew Vaccacio has been named GSC Pitcher of the Year,
Tony Rossi has been named GSC Freshman of the Year, and six Argonauts have been named to the All-Conference teams. The Argos lead all programs with five All-GSC First Team selections.

SULLIVAN LOOKING TO CONTINUE TOURNEY SUCCESS

Matt Sullivan earned a spot on the 2017 All-GSC Tournament team after an excellent performance at the 2017 Championships. The catcher/outfielder hit two home runs in three games last year and finished the Championships with four hits, three runs and five RBIs.
* He continued his success at last year's GSC Championships. The Orlando native hit two home runs in the final game of the Championships vs. Montevallo. He finished last year's GSC Tournament with five hits, four runs and six RBIs. He once again was named to the All-Tournament team.
GSC TOURNAMENT HISTORY
* UWF is seeking its first GSC Tournament championship since 2007. The Argos are 26-25 all-time at the GSC Tournament.
* The string of 11 straight GSC Tournament appearances is the second-longest active streak in the GSC. Delta State has made the GSC Tournament 26 straight seasons.
* Last year, the Argos went 2-1 at the Championships, scoring wins vs. West Georgia and Montevallo and dropping a game vs. Lee.
