PENSACOLA, Fla.- UWF Tennis will continue their early season road slate as they head to Alabama for a weekend triple header which will open the 2020 Gulf South Conference slate.
The men and women are both coming off a split this past weekend as they faced Georgia Gwinnett and Florida Southern in Valdosta, Georgia to kick off the spring season. The Argonauts fell to the Grizzlies 4-0 on both sides and then they recovered to defeat the Mocs 4-3 on the men's side while the women throttled their portion 4-1.
Seniors Serdar Bojadiev and
Juan Motta stood out on the men's side for UWF as both were triumphant in both their singles and doubles matches. Bojadiev paired with Nicholas Lecoutre, who had taken a year off before returning to the squad, to easily defeat their opponents 6-2. Motta also teamed with
Pedro Cordeiro to win their doubles pairing and then he turned around to defeat his singles opponent 6-4, 6-3.
It was a little bit different on the women's side as both a returner and new face guided the Argos. Senior Gabriela Araujo paired with her doubles partner of a year ago, Karolina Silwanowicz, to get a 6-3 result and then she later had dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory in the singles' pairings. Also, Lucie Lesecq, a native of France, earned a win over Florida Southern in singles by a final of 6-0, 6-4.

The Tigers finished 15-5 for the guys, while the girls ended up as the GSC regular season champions. Ilari Vesanen (13-4 in singles matches) returns to guide the men, while Sarah Manseri, ranked 33rd in the ITA national rankings, is a player to watch on the women's side.
Scouting Montevallo: Both men (10-8 last season) and the women (8-11 last year) have played two matches, sitting at 1-1 and 2-0 respectively. The men are lead by junior Georg Trompler while the women have a budding star in Emily Hafner.
