Baseball Travels to West Alabama Saturday, Sunday

The Series has now been Moved to Saturday and Sunday Due to Weather Conditions

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Argos will continue their road trip by heading to Livingston, Alabama this weekend for its second consecutive Gulf South Conference series against West Alabama. The Argos are coming off two straight weekend series victories, taking 2-3 from both Rollins and Montevallo to improve to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in conference.
 
The weekend's series starts on Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. CT. The series will conclude on Sunday with first pitch at 1:00 p.m. CT.

SOUTH REGION & GSC ACCOLADES
Eric Keating was named the Division II Regional Player of the Week in the South Region and the GSC Pitcher of the Week for the first time, and Sean Means earned the GSC Freshman of the Week for his first time as well.

Keating pitched a complete game shutout, going 7.0 innings and finishing with 13 strikeouts to earn the win for the Argos last Friday. The southpaw owns a 2-1 record and a 2.65 ERA for the season. He has struck out 23 and walked 6 in his three starts in 2020.

Means went 3.1 scoreless innings in relief in Game two of the doubleheader on Saturday to help preserve the 4-1 win for West Florida. The righty, allowed only one hit and issued one walk in his appearance. In his four relief appearances this season, Means has yet to allow a run.

UWF TAKES 2-3 IN GSC OPENING SERIES AT MONTEVALLO
West Florida baseball scored eight runs in the final three innings of game one to run-rule Montevallo 10-0 in seven innings. Keating went the distance pitching a complete game shutout, finishing with 13 strikeouts. Keating's 13 strikeouts were the most for an Argonaut pitcher since at least 2014.
 
Montevallo scored two runs late in game two of the series to defeat the Argos 2-1. Daniel Floyd pitched seven shutout innings, while striking out eight and issuing one walk. Floyd finished with a no decision and Alex Knight got the loss, after allowing two earned runs in his 0.2 inning of relief. Justin Dunnam had a multi-hit game, finishing with two singles.
 
UWF recovered well in the series finale, scoring three runs early to emerge victorious. UWF scored four runs on five hits to beat the Falcons 4-1. Hunter Lucas earned his first win of the season to move to 1-1 in 2020. He allowed only one earned run that occurred in the third and struck out three en route to the win. Anthony Martens was awarded the save after pitching a scoreless 0.2 inning in the seventh to close out the finale.
 
SCOUTING WEST ALABAMA
The Tigers had a rough start to their GSC action by getting swept at Mississippi College last weekend, making their overall record 5-5. West Alabama allowed six runs or more to the Choctaws in every game in the series.
 
The Argos have won six out of their last seven games against the Tigers, including the past four matchups. UWF is 29-21 all-time versus West Alabama.

UWA has two starting pitchers in their rotation that rank top six in the GSC in ERA. Peyton Warren has a 2.12 ERA in 17.0 IP and Mason Hollander has produced a 2.16 ERA in 16.2 IP. The Tigers' offense ranks second to last in the GSC in On Base Percentage (0.335).

West Alabama's head coach, Gary Rundles, has been at the helm in UWA for 19 seasons accumulating a record of 625-390. He has coached 1,610 games as a collegiate head coach and owns an overall record of 997-667 in 32 years. Rundles has guided the Tigers to regional berths in two of the last five years, including an NCAA South Region final in 2017.
