UWF Baseball Hosts West Georgia for Weekend Series

Both Teams are Tied for Third in the GSC with 7-2 Conference Records

PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF baseball will host No. 17 West Georgia at Jim Spooner Field this upcoming weekend. The Argos will play a three-game set against the Wolves on Saturday and Sunday.

The doubleheader versus West Georgia will start on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and the series finale will begin on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
 
ARGOS SWEPT DELTA STATE LAST WEEKEND
The Argos handed Delta State their first sweep in a three-game series since 2015 in their season opener against Nova Southeastern, and their first conference sweep since 2010 against Arkansas Tech.

Argos' starters in the series combined for 20.2 IP and allowed only three runs total.

Senior Daniel Floyd pitched a complete game allowing only one earned run as he struck out seven on four hits in game one of the series. Floyd allowed no hits for the first five innings of the game.

Jared Middleton tossed five innings only giving up two hits, with one of them being a solo-homer. The solo-homer was the only run he allowed in the Argos' 5-1 victory in game two.

Eric Keating started game three for the Argos and pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up one earned run while striking out nine.

FLOYD EARNS GSC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Senior Daniel Floyd was named the Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Week for the first time this season and the second time in his career at West Florida earlier this week.
 
Floyd pitched a complete game earning the win in the Argos victory against Delta State on Saturday. His final stat line was 9.0 IP, one earned run, four hits, and seven strikeouts on only 89 total pitches. The righty owns a 3-0 record and has a 1.80 ERA for the season. He has struck out 36 and walked seven in his five starts in 2020.

JEFFCOAT CHASING 500 WINS AT UWF
UWF head baseball coach Mike Jeffcoat is one win away from 500 career wins at UWF. He owns a career record of 499-274 for a .646 career winning percentage going into this weekend series.

Jeffcoat has recently led the Argonauts to 2016 and 2019 GSC Regular Season Championships, a 2011 NCAA Division II National Championship, and six NCAA South Regional tournaments in the last nine years

The Argonauts have made an appearance in the GSC Tournament for ten consecutive seasons and have posted 30-win seasons in nine of the last ten years with Jeffcoat at the helm.

SCOUTING WEST GEORGIA
The Wolves began GSC action this season taking 2-3 in both their series versus Montevallo and at Lee. Then last weekend they swept Shorter, scoring at least eight runs in every game in the series. West Georgia currently sits at 12-4 overall and 7-2 in the GSC.

The Argos have beaten the Wolves seven out of their last eight games, including the previous four matchups. West Florida is 31-12 all-time versus West Georgia and 13-5 against them at home.

West Georgia's offense is currently leading the conference in batting average (.301) on the season, and ranks second in runs scored (123) and RBIs (109). The team's ace to this point has been senior Ryan Parker as he has limited opponents to a batting average of .253 this year and owns an ERA of 2.96.
