PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF baseball will take on Southern Indiana Tuesday and Wednesday at Jim Spooner Field. First pitch on Tuesday is slated for 6:00 p.m.
The Argos (12-8, 9-3 GSC) are coming off a weekend series where they took two out of three against Gulf South Conference opponent, #17 West Georgia. West Florida moved into second place in the GSC after the series and trail Alabama-Huntsville by one game for first place.
ARGOS TAKE 2-3 AGAINST WEST GEORGIA
The University of West Florida baseball team split a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon against West Georgia.
West Florida homered three times to win game one 8-2 over the Wolves. Senior Daniel Floyd pitched seven innings in the game, allowing two earned runs on five hits to earn the win in the game. He is now 4-0 to start the season.
Both teams were held scoreless until the tenth inning in game two, when West Georgia's Brody Wortham homered to left field to give the Wolves the lead. The homer would end up being the difference maker as it was the only run scored in the game.
Hunter Lucas started and went 6.1 scoreless innings allowing three hits and finished with five strikeouts.
UWF won the rubber match 14-9 to hand #17 ranked West Georgia their first three-game series loss of the season.
Eric Keating started the game for the Argos and pitched 3 innings giving up six earned runs while striking out two. UWF's offense accumulated 13 hits and had 10 runners left on base to end the day.
NCBWA SOUTH REGION RANKING
UWF is ranked tied for fourth in the South Region in the latest edition of the poll released March 9
th. The Argos received 53 points and tied with Alabama-Huntsville for fourth in the ranking. UWF was fifth in last week's poll.
Tampa topped the poll with four first place votes and 73 points to maintain the top spot. Barry came in at second in the poll with three first place votes and 72 points.
Nova Southeastern, Embry-Riddle, West Georgia, Valdosta State, Lynn, Florida Southern and Lee rounded out the South Region Top 10.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN INDIANA
Southern Indiana just took 2-3 from Illinois-Springfield this past weekend winning the first two games of the series by the final scores 16-11 and 10-9. Southern Indiana currently sits at 6-6 overall and 1-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
The Argos have faced the Screaming Eagles only two times in program history with UWF winning both matchups. West Florida defeated Southern Indiana 8-6 in their first game and won the second game 12-7 in 2018.
Southern Indiana's offense has only recorded one home run the entire season up to this point and ranks first in their conference in sacrifice hits (12). The Screaming Eagles are currently hitting .229 as a team. The staff has a 5.44 ERA.
