PENSACOLA, Fla
.- The UWF Men's Basketball team returns home on Saturday to face Gulf South Conference foe West Georgia at 3 pm inside the UWF Field House.

This will be the first of three games between the two squads, with the remaining two games scheduled for February 5th and 6th in Carrollton, Georgia.

In their last time out, four different Argos scored in double-figures in a loss.  Tarik Mckelphin had a team-high 24 points and 11 rebounds, Daniel Sofield and Tate Mulkey each had 17 points and Conor Flanagan chipped in 11 points as well.  The 17 for Mulkey was a new-career high as he shot 7-13 from the field.

West Florida had their highest scoring output with 83 points on 46 percent shooting on Tuesday night.  On the year, UWF is second in the GSC in scoring (78 ppg), seventh in field goal percentage (.429), six in three-point field goals per game (7.5), and sixth in free-throw percentage (.734).

Tarik The Freak: Mckelphin, a senior from Plant City, Florida, has done it all this season for UWF as he leads the team in many statistical categories.  Currently, he is tops on the team in scoring (17 ppg), minutes (145), field goal percentage (.500), total rebounds (39) assists (15), steals (8) and total blocks (7).  Tarik is also second in the GSC in rebounds per game (9.8), ninth in assists, second in blocks, sixth in steals and sixth in minutes per game.

Dan The Three-Point Man: Sofield, a native of New Jersey, has been a three-point marksman for the Argos through four games this year.  He has connected on 12-25 from beyond the arc (.480), good enough to lead the team and place him fifth in the GSC in both three-point field goal percentage and three-pointers per game.  In a January 9th victory over Auburn Montgomery, Daniel went 6-7 from the three-point line, which was the second best mark in Argonaut history, only behind Sean Flynn who hit 8-9 from downtown on February 24th, 1996.  Sofield is also tied with Mckelphin for the team lead in points per game, and is also second on the squad in rebounds and assists.

Argonaut Bench Crew: The Argos have one of their deepest teams in the Jeff Burkhamer era and it has shown on the court.  West Florida outscored Auburn Montgomery 51-17 in bench points during their two match-ups during this season.  Akili Vining led UWF in both games with 12 and 9 points, respectively.  Forward Wendell Matthews provided a spark in the UWF victory over AUM on January 9th with eight points and a team-high five rebounds in his season debut.  Mulkey, a freshman from Charlotte, North Carolina, paced all Argos off the bench in the loss on Tuesday night at Valdosta State with 17 points, with Vining adding six points and four rebounds.

About UWG: West Georgia comes into the game at 1-5 on the young season after dropping a pair of road games at Lee last weekend.  The Wolves are led by Dave Moore, who is in his third season with the team.  UWG averages 68.8 points per match-up as they shoot 38 percent from the field, last in the GSC. Deng Nhial, a junior from Arlington, Virginia, leads the team in points (17.3), minutes (34.0) and is second in the team in rebounds per contest (5.7).  Pre-season All-GSC East Selection, Kadeim Jones provides a scoring punch next to Nhial as Jones is averaging 12.2 points per game, and is second on the team with 16 assists on the year.

Series History: All-time, the series is tied between the two programs at 16 apiece.  UWF has found success at the UWF Field House, going 11-3 at home with wins in the last four match-ups in Pensacola, dating back to January 14th, 2017. Last season, the Argos won both match-ups against the Wolves, including a 61-57 decision at home behind 16 points and three assists from West Florida guard Cameron Cox.
