Wendell Matthews's game-high 14 points was not enough as UWF dropped a tight one at home to the University of Montevallo Falcons, 65-60.

The first half saw UWF pulling away with the game early in what was a relatively low-scoring half, 32-18.

The Argos thoroughly outplayed the Falcons on both sides of the ball in the first; leading in every single statistical category aside from bench points and number of possessions.

Sophomore guard
Daniel Sofield ended the half in double digit scoring with ten points, coming off of a pair of long-range bombs.

The second half saw a new look Falcons team clawing their way back into the game. Rallying back, the Falcons went on a 16-5 run in the first seven minutes of the second half to cut their deficit to three.

A three-point play by junior guard Braxton Bertollete gave the Falcons their first lead of the game at 44-43.

From that point on, the rest of the game was hotly contested as both teams went back and forth. The final ten minutes alone saw 11 lead changes.

A thunderous putback dunk by senior guard
Tarik Mckelphin gave the Argos a 60-59 lead with just about two and a half minutes to go and give the squad their final lead of the game.

Four players for UWF finished the game with scoring in double figures. Senior guard
Cameron Cox finished with ten, while Mckelphin and Sofield contributed 13 and 12, respectively.

Tonight's game was the third of four meetings between the two schools this season with UWF down 1-2 in the season series. The final matchup will be at Montevallo's homecourt on Feb. 23 where UWF will look to tie it up.

A victory tonight would have seen UWF (5-9, 5-9 Gulf South) overtake the University of Montevallo (5-5, 5-5 Gulf South) in the GSC East Division standings. The Argos are now 7-20 all time against the Falcons.

The men's basketball team's next game will be on the road at Auburn Montgomery on Friday, Feb. 19 at 6 p.m.
