PENSACOLA, Fla.
- The UWF Men's Basketball team dropped another tight road game, this time at Auburn Montgomery by a final of 74-65 on Friday night inside the AUM Athletics Complex.

West Florida falls to 5-10 while AUM improves to 3-9.

Daniel Sofield led the way with 16 points on 7-12 shooting, with Wendell Matthews putting up 14 points.  Guard Tarik Mckelphin recorded his seventh double-double on the year with 11 points and 10 rebounds to go along with a game-high six assists.

"It was another close, tough loss for us", said UWF Head Coach Jeff Burkhamer.  We were in position and could not close out the game.  They made more plays down the stretch while we could not capitalize on good looks."

The Argos could not have asked for a better start, leading 19-2 at the 12:02 mark of the opening period as Matthews scored an early six points.  AUM quickly battled back behind Maharrith Jackson who had 10 points in less than three minutes to tie the game at 19 with 7 minutes remaining in the first half.  The hosts would control the remaining seven minutes, building their lead to six before the Argos cut the lead to four, heading into the break.

UWF came back to take the lead mid-way through the second period on a lay-up by Cameron Cox to make it 44-43 with 12:26 left.  Cox finished with 11 points on the night.  Following six straight points from the Warhawks, Sofield and Cox combined for five points of their own to knot the game at 49 with 10:13 remaining.  That would be the closest the visitors would get in the final 10 minutes of game action, with AUM holding a tight lead for the next eight minutes, as they never led by more than four.

However, AUM would make enough shots down the stretch to put distance between the two teams, leading by as many as 11 in the late stages of the contest, as Jackson's three-pointer with 2:32 remaining iced the contest.  Maharrith Jackson led all scorers with 26 points on 10-20 shooting.  The guard also had a game-high 20 boards.

The story of the game was the rebounding difference as AUM had 50 compared to the Argos' 27.  UWF shot 40.3 percent from the field while AUM shot 43.6 percent for the game.

"The biggest issue was the boards", Coach Burkhamer continued.  "We knew that was going to be the difference in the game and it was.  We have to come back and be ready to play tomorrow."

The two teams will meet again tomorrow inside the AUM Athletics Complex.  Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
