PENSACOLA, Fla.
- The UWF Men's Basketball program will look to make a move up the Gulf South Conference East Division standings as they travel to Auburn, Alabama for a two-game series against Auburn Montgomery on Friday and Saturday.  Tip-off on Friday night is scheduled for 6 p.m, while Saturday's contest will begin at 2 p.m.

West Florida (5-9), is coming off a split in their last two games against GSC foe, Montevallo.  In the series against the Falcons, Conor Flanagan shined in a game one victory. The red-shirt sophomore from Auckland, New Zealand scored 28 points on 10-14 shooting, including an impressive 8-10 on three-point field goals.

In the 85-75 win, UWF received all 85 points from their starting five.  Beyond Flanagan, Cameron Cox had a season-high 20 points and five assists, Daniel Sofield put up 13 points, Wendell Matthews scored 12 points to go along with five rebounds, while guard Tarik Mckelphin rounded out the line-up with 12 points and 11 boards.  It was the sixth double-double of the season for Mckelphin.

In a game two defeat, the Argos had big performances from Matthews - a game high 14 points and nine rebounds - along with Mckelphin, Cox and Sofield all tallying double-figures in points as well.  Flanagan had a season-high 12 boards in the loss.

Swiss Army Knife, Tarik Mckelphin: Mckelphin a 6'4 guard, has been everywhere on the court for UWF this season.  Through 14 games, Mckelphin is first on the team in minutes per game (34.9), field goal percentage (.506), total rebounds (119), rebounds per contest (8.5) and blocks (18).  Tarik is second on the team in points per game with 15.1.  Along with being GSC East Player of the Week twice this season, the Plant City, Florida native leads the league in rebounds per contest and also is tied for most points scored in a conference game this season (33), most field goals (14), and most rebounds in a match-up (14).

Sofield A Weapon From The Outside: Sofield has been on the mark consistently from beyond the arc this season.  Leading the team with a .424 three-point percentage this season, the mark also puts Sofield at third in the GSC in that category, while he is also sitting in fourth in the conference in three-pointers per game with 2.6.  The sophomore from New Jersey also recorded the second-best three-point percentage in a single-game in Argonaut history on January 9th coincidentally against AUM, going 6-7 from the outside which led to his 24 points.

An Inside-Out Post Presence: Since Matthews was inserted into the starting line-up on January 23rd against Lee, Matthews and Flanagan have been a consistent 1-2 punch down for UWF.  Matthews has had his two highest scoring contests as he had 18 against Montevallo on January 26th and 17 against Shorter on January 30th.  The Brooklyn Park, Minnesota has added much needed size to the Argonauts as the junior is averaging 10.4 points and 4.5 rebounds for the year.  Meanwhile, Flanagan has been allowed to play more on the perimeter where he has flourished.  Along with his 28 points last weekend, Flanagan has two other double-digit scoring outputs, to boost his per game average to 11.2, third best on the squad.

Scouting AUM: The Warhawks (2-9), are led by coach Michael Cheaney.  Despite the record, AUM is averaging 75.1 points per game, good enough for third in the GSC.  Auburn Montgomery is a tough out, with five of their nine losses, coming by 10 points or less, which includes three that were by six or fewer.  Maharrith Jackson has been everywhere on the court for the Warhawks this season, tallying 17.1 points per contest as well as 8.5 boards per game. Stanley Davis, who was a thorn in the Argos side in the two match-ups in Pensacola, is second on the squad in scoring at 14.9 points per game, with a .342 three-point percentage to go along with it.  Freshman Sam Youngblood rounds out the scorers in double-figures at 11 points per contest.

Series History: All-time the Argos are 7-4 against AUM, which includes a 4-1 mark in Montgomery.  As mentioned above, the teams split the two games in Pensacola earlier this season, as Daniel Sofield led the team in scoring in both games, totaling 18 in game one and 24 in game two.  UWF last won in Montgomery on February 4th, 2019 behind a combined 42 points from Jarrett Henderson and Maxwell Benoit.
