Men’s Tennis looks for Revenge when #4 University of Indianapolis comes to Town Thursday

Argonauts dropped the first meeting when the two teams squared off from the ITA National Team Indoor Championship

PENSACOLA, Fla. – It will be a clash between two of the top Division II Men's Tennis teams on Thursday when the fourth-ranked University of Indianapolis comes to town to face the fifth-ranked West Florida Argonauts. These two teams come into Thursday after having already met once this season when the Greyhounds took down the Argos 4-0 from the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.

Despite what the score depicted, this previous match was much closer than what the 4-0 result showed as the Argos fell just a few points short of changing the total outcome of this match.

In doubles, the Argos fell in tiebreakers in two of their matches to give the Greyhounds the one-point advantage heading into singles play. In singles play, all three matches that ended unfinished saw West Florida take one set so the lone doubles point proved to make the difference in the match.

It is safe to say that Thursday should be another very close match with both teams wanting to pick up a big statement win before embarking on the second half of their seasons.

About the Argos – West Florida comes into Thursday as the fifth-ranked team in the country after going 6-2 to start their season. This record includes a perfect 3-0 start in conference play for UWF as well as two wins over ranked teams already on the year.

It has been an excellent showing all year for the Argos in doubles play as they have secured the one-point advantage in seven of their eight matches on the year. This success is bolstered by the strong-play of Salvador Bandeira and Gabriel Nery who have combined to go 7-1 on the year as a pairing including winning the lone doubles match the last time UWF faced UINDY.

Singles play on the other hand for West Florida has been a little more unpredictable as each match it seems a new player steps up and wins a huge point from their position. Juan Cabrera, however, has been one player the Argonauts can lean on as he is currently 7-0 on the season in singles picking up wins from the No. 3, 5, and 6 positions on the year.

In total, the play from the bottom half of the lineup has pushed the Argonauts ahead in many of their matches as they currently are 6-0 from the No. 6 position, 7-0 from the No. 5 position, and 5-1 from the No. 3 position so far.

About the Greyhounds – UINDY heads to Pensacola as the fourth ranked team in the country with a 6-1 record to start their season. After going 4-0 to begin the year, the Greyhounds rode this momentum to finish 2-1 from the ITA National Team Indoor Championship to place second in the tournament.

The Greyhounds are another team who have found success in doubles play early on in the season, winning five of the seven points so far on the year.

However, it is singles play where UINDY shines as they are currently 33-7 as a team over their seven matches played. The Greyhounds have leaned on Nikolaj Talimaa, Yoann Viel, and Tom Zeuch in singles with each player currently holding an undefeated record on the season.

Thursday's Schedule – Action is slated to begin at 1 PM (CST) on Thursday from the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. As always be sure to follow along on GoArgos.com as well as the UWF Men's Tennis social media accounts for updates and highlights from the match.
