CLEVELAND, Miss. - After having both their matches rained out earlier in the week, the West Florida Men's Tennis Team will return to action this weekend when they face Delta State on Friday and Christian Brothers on Saturday. These will be the Argonauts first conference matchups since the start of the season when West Florida took down Auburn Montgomery, Lee, and Shorter to begin 3-0 in the GSC on the year.
As the fourth-ranked team in the nation, the Argonauts are playing some of their best tennis all season including a huge win over the previously fourth-ranked University of Indianapolis last week. This victory was one of three West Florida picked up during the previous week as they improved to 9-2 on the season including wins in their last four matches.
Between these matches this weekend as well as the make-up match on Monday against West Alabama, the Argonauts are in for a very busy few weeks to close out their season. The Argonauts are scheduled to play five conference matches as well as a match against #22 North Georgia all before their regular season ends on April 9
th.
This stretch of games will be a great test for West Florida as they will look to battle the adversity and continue their momentum with the postseason just around the corner.
About the Argos – With a 9-2 record to show for their efforts so far on the season, the Argonauts have been firing on all cylinders as of late winning their last four matches. This great start includes three wins over ranked opponents including victories over #7 Drury and #4 UINDY on the season.
This record is bolstered by some great doubles play as the Argonauts have secured the lone point in ten of their eleven matches on the year.
Salvador Bandeira and partner
Gabriel Nery lead the way for West Florida as they currently hold a 9-1 record on the season as a pair. In addition to this strong pairing,
Nicolas Lecoutre and
William Shkrob have also teamed up to secure an 8-2 record to become another key reason for the Argos doubles success. Overall, UWF is 24-7 on the season in doubles and has done enough to jump out into the lead in a majority of their matches.
Singles play has seen the Argos finally start to find their rhythm from the top of the lineup as
Serdar Bojadjiev and Bandeira both picked up huge wins against #4 UINDY this past week.
Bojadjiev, playing from the No. 1 position, had a great week for the Argonauts finishing 2-0 in singles including a straight-set victory over the 12
th-ranked player in the nation this past Thursday. Bandeira was also able to lock-in when the Argos faced UINDY picking up a huge 6-3, 6-2 victory to help secure the win for West Florida.
In addition to these two,
Juan Cabrera is another player who has played very well starting 9-0 on the season in singles.
About the Statesmen – Delta State enters Friday's match with an 8-2 record with their only losses coming to the Argonauts as well as #7 Valdosta State. As the #11 ranked team in the nation themselves, the Statesmen already have three top-25 victories under their belt this season.
Singles play is led by Come Bracaval who currently has an 8-2 record on the season and is coming off of a GSC Player of the week award for his play last week. Trey Seymour is another impressive player for the Statesmen compiling an 8-1 record playing from the No. 4 position on the season.
In doubles, Emile Le Terrier and Seymour set the tone for the Statesmen going 6-2 from the No. 1 position as a pairing. In total, Delta State is 17-11 in doubles matches this season and will try to get ahead of the Argos early on Friday.
About the Bucs – Christian Brothers will come into Saturday's match with a record of 5-5 including a 1-4 mark in conference play.

Paul Chabaud leads the way for the Bucs holding down the lineup from the No. 1 position all season. In total, Chabaud is 6-2 on the season and will look to be a strong force atop of the lineup.
Schedule for the Weekend – Action is set to begin on Friday against Delta State which is scheduled to start at noon from Cleveland, Mississippi. On Saturday, the team will travel to Memphis, Tennessee to face Christian Brothers at 1:30 PM (CST) to close out the weekend.
