HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Camila Vazquez hit .667 and led all players with 16 kills to help No. 13 UWF to a dominating sweep of Alabama Huntsville at Spragins Hall on Tuesday.
For UWF (15-4, 7-1 Gulf South), the win completed a season sweep as the Argonauts defeated the Chargers for the second time in five days.
UWF hit .330 and was very consistent, posting at least 14 kills in all three sets. The Argos also had 45 digs and put down seven blocks to hold the Chargers to .150 hitting.
Along with Vazquez, Alex Oliver and Avery Rodgers had eight kills each on offense. Taylor Vaneekeren handed out 35 assists. Vazquez was in on five of the seven blocks, with one solo. Meg Brackhan dug 15 attacks and Izabelle Sanchez had seven.
The opening set went back-and-forth before UWF took the lead for good with four-consecutive points for a 16-14 lead. UAH tied it three times but UWF had an answer each time, including with the final two points on a Vazquez kill and a Brackhan service ace for a 25-23 win.
The Argonauts use runs on 4-0 and 5-0 to create space in the second set with a 25-18 decision.
After the Chargers pulled to within one in the third frame, the Argos close the match out with an 11-4 run.
UAH (7-11, 3-4) got 10 kills from Gracie McGee and eight from Paris Morris to lead them offensively.
UWF will return home to the UWF Field House this weekend for a pair of patches, beginning Friday at 6 p.m. against Shorter. On Saturday, the Argos will play host to Lee at 2 p.m. for the 15th-annual Pack It Pink Match.
