PENSACOLA, Fla. – The 13th-ranked UWF women's volleyball team got another strong offensive performance on its way to a 3-1 win over Auburn Montgomery in the regular-season finale at the UWF Field House on Friday.
UWF (25-5, 15-1 Gulf South) hit .373 and was in command for the majority of the match, outscoring AUM (15-17, 8-8) 25-9, 25-17, 24-26 and 25-14 as it ran its home record to 14-1 on the season.
Camila Vazquez had a match-high 16 kills on .484, while Jenna Zydlo continued to tear up the middle part of the net with 10 kills on .529 as Avery Rodgers added 13 winners on 25 swings for a .480 clip.
Taylor Vaneekeren had a double-double with 47 assists and 10 digs. She added four kills on four attacks, an ace and four block assists.
Defensively, the Argonauts had nine blocks and 64 digs to hold the Warhawks to .152 hitting., with three sets at .121 or lower.
In the opening frame, Jacque Martin served up 10-consecutive points as UWF worked a 16-4 lead while holding AUM to minus-.103 hitting. The second set saw more of the same as Rodgers had six kills and a block assist to spur the home squad.
AUM scored the final four points in the third set to overcome a late deficit for a 26-24 win. In the fourth set, UWF never trailed and rode a 7-0 run with Isabelle Sanchez behind the service line to pull away. Zydlo had four kills with three of the final four winners in the fourth.
UWF will now turn it's attention to postseason action as it hosts the GSC Championship, Nov. 11-13. This marks the seventh-consecutive time the Argos have hosted the event and 12th time overall.
