PENSACOLA, Fla. - The UWF men's basketball team will bring a 2-game winning streak into Sunday's contest with Valdosta State. The game will begin at 4 p.m. at the UWF Field House, immediately following the women's contest between the same schools.
ABOUT UWF
* UWF is 6-5 through 11 games and has won its last two contests. The Argonauts are 2-5 in Gulf South Conference play.
* UWF is shooting 44 percent from the field and is 5-3 when shooting at least 40 percent in a game.
* From outside the 3-point line, the Argos are converting 34 pct. They have made 17 in their last two games and at least seven five times, going 4-1 in those contests.
* The Argos are averaging 31.4 rebounds per game and have outrebounded three opponents this year.

Daniel Sofield leads the team with 15.1 points per game, 24 3-pointers, 33 assists and 10 steals. He has scored in double-figures 10 of 11 games and at least 20 three times.

LaTrell Tate is second in scoring, with 14.2 ppg and 16 3-pointers. He has benefited greatly with the move from point guard to shooting guard, averaging 17.5 ppg over the last six contests as he has raised his scoring average from 8.2 ppg. He has four 20-plus point games in the stretch as well.
ARGOS CLOSE NON-CONFERENCE WITH WIN OVER GEORGIA COLLEGE
* UWF defeated Georgia College, 72-59, on Education Day in Milledgeville, Ga.
* UWF won its second-consecutive game and shot 44 percent from the floor while outrebounding GC, 36-28. The Argos made seven 3-pointers and were 19-of-22 at the free throw line.
*Â UWF trailed 28-26 at the half and came out with more toughness in the second frame. Trailing 37-36 with just over 14 minutes to play, the Argos got back-to-back threes from Sofield and Tate to seize control, 42-37.

LaTrell Tate had 17 of his game-high 20 in the second half and made four 3-pointers to lead the offense. The Argonauts got key contributions from several players – notablyÂ

Channick Nkoma came off the bench to score nine points and grab four rebounds.Â
* UWF finished the regular-season non-conference portion of the schedule with a 4-0 record.
ABOUT VALDOSTA STATE
* VSU comes into the game at 8-5 on the season and 4-3 in the GSC. The Blazers won both games last week, with a win over CBU and Palm Beach Atlantic.
*Â On the year, the Blazers are shooting 49 percent from the field, 36.6 percent from deep and 67.8 percent from the free throw line in addition to 210 assists, 127 steals, 56 blocks and 449 rebounds. The team leads the GSC in blocks per game with 4.3, and also leads the league in scoring, averaging 85.8 points per game and steals per game with 9.8. Â
* Jacolbey Owens leads the team in scoring (15.2 ppg) and leads both the nation in assists with 79. Owens also leads the GSC in free throws made with 59 (7th in NCAA) and in steals with 26 (8th in NCAA). Cam Hamilton is right there with Owens with 25 steals to rank tenth nationally. He is three steals away from tying the career-record at VSU. Jay Rucker leads the team with 6.2 rebounds per game and has 20 blocks, tying for the team-lead with Maurice Gordon.
SERIES HISTORY
* UWF and Valdosta State are playing for the 60th time in men's basketball on Sunday, with VSU holding a 36-23 all-time advantage.
* The teams split the home-and-home series a year ago, with each winning at home in very close games - UWF with a 99-97 win in Pensacola and VSU claiming an 84-81 win in Valdosta 21 days later. The Argos have not won back-to-back games over the Blazers in Pensacola since claiming 4-straight from 2011-14.
* It is the most played series in program history, just ahead of the 56 games with Alabama Huntsville.
