PENSACOLA, Fla. – No. 21/27 UWF Baseball returns home where they will play their next seven games in Pensacola, including six of those at Jim Spooner Field. The Argonauts will open that stretch against Embry-Riddle on Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at Noon.
ABOUT THE ARGONAUTS
* UWF is 13-7 overall and ranked No. 21 in the country and tied for third in the South Region.
* The Argos have led the GSC since the second week of the league slate and are sitting at 10-2 with four series wins, including a pair of sweeps. UWF has won 28 of their last 30 GSC series.
* UWF is hitting .255 (187th in the NCAA) as a team and has 46 extra base hits (34 2B, 3 3B, 9 HR). The pitching staff has compiled a 4.09 ERA (3rd GSC, 44th nationally) and held opponents to a .243 batting average. The team's 2.83 Walks Allowed per Nine IP is 10th in the NCAA and leads the GSC. In the field, UWF has a .982 fielding pct. to rank third in the country and has turned 18 double plays to rank 13th nationally.
* On the base paths, the Argonauts are 38-for-44 in stolen base attempts.
Chris Johnson (10-for-10) and
Trent Jeffcoat (13-for-14) lead the team.
SPOON BALL ALIVE AND WELL
* Some baseball experts call it small ball but at UWF we have Spoon Ball. The Argonauts will not wow you with power but
Mike Jeffcoat's teams are consistently good base runners, bunt well, and have very strong pitching and defense. 2022 is no exception early on as 116 of the team's 162 hits (71.6%) are singles and they are bunting at a .667 clip (12-for-18) with 15 sacrifices (12th in the NCAA).
SERIES BUSINESS
* The Argonauts have won 31 of their last 37 3-game series over the past 3-plus seasons.
* Of the six series they have lost, two are to Florida Southern (2019 & 2020), two at Rollins (2019 & 2022), one to Shorter (2021) and one to Lee (2019).
* In GSC 3-game series, UWF is 28-2 over that time, leading the conference in series wins.
TRENT THE TABLE SETTER… OR DO YOU PREFER MAITRE D'?
* UWF sophomore transfer
Trent Jeffcoat has been the team's leadoff man all season and leads the team with a .375 batting average. He also paces the squad with 22 runs, 30 hits (7 via bunt), a .457 on-base pct. and 13 steals.
* But what's even more impressive is his .606 avg. (20-for-33) when leading off an inning. Additionally, he has a .500 on-base pct. to start the game, reaching base 10 times out of 20 plate appearances to get things started for UWF. And of those 10 times reaching base, he has scored in eight of them. He is hitting .389 to start games (7-of-18) with a pair of walks.
STREAKS & STUFF
*
Preston Moore brings a 4-game hitting streak into the weekend, while
Trent Jeffcoat and
Cullan O'Shea each hit safely in all three at UWA last weekend. The season-long is 9 games by Jeffcoat to open the season.
* Jeffcoat has reached base in all 20 games this season with

UWF-ERAU SERIES HISTORY
* The series is tied 4-4 all time. The Argos trail 2-3 in Pensacola and are 2-0 in Daytona Beach.
* The Argos took two of three at the Spoon in 2019 and a pair of midweek contests at ERAU's Silwa Stadium in 2017. The Eagles won two midweeks in Pensacola in 2016. UWF claimed the first game, 7-1, back in 1995 in Demopolis, Ala. when both teams were NAIA members.
