PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF baseball team will continue non-conference play on Wednesday when it faces Wisconsin-Whitewater at Blue Wahoos Stadium in downtown Pensacola.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at GoArgos.com/wahoos for $10. The Pensacola Blue Wahoos have transitioned to a ticketless system and all purchases must be made online and will be delivered to the customer's e-mail.
This is the second time that UWF has played at BWS. They defeated UWW 14-0 in the 2019 season. The teams were scheduled to play in 2020 but the COVID Pandemic shut down sports 11 days before the scheduled contest.
ABOUT THE ARGONAUTS
* UWF is 14-9 on the season after going 1-2 against Embry-Riddle over the weekend.
* UWF is hitting .259 (192nd in the NCAA) as a team and has 46 extra base hits (34 2B, 3 3B, 9 HR). The pitching staff has compiled a 3.94 ERA (3rd GSC, 34th nationally) and held opponents to a .244 batting average. The team's 3.07 Walks Allowed per Nine IP is 18th in the NCAA and is second in the GSC. In the field, UWF has a .979 fielding pct. to rank fourth in the country and has turned 19 double plays to rank 22nd nationally.
* On the base paths, the Argonauts are 45-for-54 in stolen base attempts.
Chris Johnson (12-for-12) and
Trent Jeffcoat (16-for-18) lead the team.
* UWF is expected to start freshman righthander
Jack Bellah, who is 1-0 and has not allowed a run in 6.1 innings of work over two outings.
ABOUT WISCONSIN-WHITEWATER
* Wisconsin-Whitewater is 6-2 on the season and 4-0 in their annual "Spring Trip" in Florida. The Warhawks are a NCAA Div. III program located in Whitewater, Wisconsin – about an hour west of Milwaukee. They are ranked No. 14 nationally and are members of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
* Wednesday's game is part of the Spring Trip series in which they will play seven games at Blue Wahoos Stadium as a guest of Blue Wahoos majority owners/UW Whitewater alumni Quint and Rishy Studer.
* UWW went 40-7 last season and advanced to the NCAA Regional Championship – it's 13th-consecutive regional appearance.
* The Warhawks have won seven of the last eight WIAC titles, including the last four.
