PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF baseball team returns to Gulf South Conference competition this weekend, playing host to Auburn Montgomery on Saturday and Sunday at Jim Spooner Field. Play begins at 1:00 p.m. both days with a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday.

WEEKEND PROMOTIONS
* On Saturday, fans can get free food at a pregame tailgate beginning at 11:30 a.m., sponsored by Pensacola EggFest. Additionally, the first 100 UWF students who come to the game can win a free UWF t-shirt.

FREE TICKETS FOR DONATING TO ARGO PANTRY
* There will also be a canned food drive, presented by the UWF College of Business and benefiting Argo Pantry. Fans can receive one free ticket by bringing five canned goods.

ABOUT THE ARGONAUTS
* UWF is 15-9 following Wednesday's exciting 5-4 come-from-behind win over UW-Whitewater at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
* The Argonauts are 10-2 and continue to lead the GSC with a .833 winning pct. UWF has been in first place since sweeping West Georgia to open the league schedule.
* UWF is hitting .256 (192nd in the NCAA) as a team and has 62 extra base hits (43 2B, 4 3B, 15 HR). The pitching staff has compiled a 3.92 ERA (3rd GSC, 32nd nationally) and held opponents to a .250 batting average. The team's 3.22 Walks Allowed per Nine IP is 23rd in the NCAA and is second in the GSC.
* In the field, UWF has a .980 fielding pct. to rank first in the country and has turned 19 double plays to rank 23rd nationally.
* On the base paths, the Argonauts are 45-for-54 in stolen base attempts. Chris Johnson (12-for-12) and Trent Jeffcoat (16-for-18) lead the team.

ABOUT AUBURN MONTGOMERY
* AUM comes into the weekend as the only GSC team to rank in the top five in the conference in batting average (.309), team ERA (4.85), and fielding percentage (.970). AUM leads the league with a .309 team batting average.
* Brody Syer is their leading hitter with a .362 batting average. Syer leads AUM with 30 RBIs and 34 base hits, which all rank in the top 10 in the GSC. He has recorded more extra base hits (9) than strikeouts (7) in 2022.
* AUM is fifth in the GSC with a 4.85 ERA. Andrew Cronan and Luke Turner both have notched a team-high four wins, with Turner ranking second in the GSC with a 2.17 ERA.
* The Warhawks are fourth in the GSC with a .969 fielding pct. and lead the country with 33 double plays

UWF-AUM SERIES HISTORY
* UWF leads the series 10-4, including series wins in 2018, 2019 & 2021 since the Warhawks joined the GSC. The teams did not play in 2020 when the COVID Pandemic canceled the season after mid-March.
* This weekend's games in Pensacola are the first between the teams since the 2018 season. The last six have been at AUM.

WINNING WITH PITCHING AND DEFENSE
* Mike Jeffcoat's teams have hung their hats on pitching and defense in his 17 seasons and 2022 is much the same. The team's pitch-to-contact style benefits the strong defense as they are first in the NCAA with a .980 fielding pct. and 33rd with a 3.92 earned run average. The pitching staff has compiled a 3.92 ERA (3rd GSC, 32nd nationally) and held opponents to a .250 batting average. The team's 3.22 Walks Allowed per Nine IP is 23rd in the NCAA and is second in the GSC.

SOMETHING'S GOT TO GIVE
* UWF is 13-1 when scoring 5 or more runs.
* AUM is 14-1 when scoring 6 or more runs.

SPOON BALL ALIVE AND WELL
* Some baseball experts call it small ball but at UWF we have Spoon Ball. The Argonauts will not wow you with power but Mike Jeffcoat's teams are consistently good base runners, bunt well, and have very strong pitching and defense. 2022 is no exception early on as 133 of the team's 195 hits (68.2%) are singles and they are bunting at a .591 clip (13-for-22) with 22 sacrifices (4th in the NCAA).

SERIES BUSINESS
* The Argonauts have won 31 of their last 37 3-game series over the past 3-plus seasons.
* Of the six series they have lost, two are to Florida Southern (2019 & 2020), two at Rollins (2019 & 2022), one to Shorter (2021) and one to Lee (2019).
* In GSC 3-game series, UWF is 28-2 over that time, leading the conference in series wins.

TRENT THE TABLE SETTER… OR DO YOU PREFER MAITRE D'?
* UWF sophomore transfer Trent Jeffcoat has been the team's leadoff man all season and leads the team with a .344 batting average. He paces the squad with 24 runs, 32 hits (8 via bunt), a .451 on-base pct. and 16 steals.
* But what's even more impressive is his .540 avg. (22-for-40) when leading off an inning. Additionally, he has a .416 on-base pct. to start the game. He has reached base 10 times out of 24 games to get things started for UWF. And of those 10 times reaching base, he has scored in eight of them. He is hitting .333 to start games (7-of-21) with three of walks.

STREAKS & STUFF
* Josh Prizina brings a 4-game hitting streak into the weekend, while Alden Davis, Mark Townsend, Preston Moore, Chris Johnson and Brady Browning had 2-game streaks. The season-long is 9 games by Trent Jeffcoat to open the season.
* Trent Jeffcoat has reached base in all 24 games this season. Alden Davis had his stretch at 14 games before it was snapped against Embry-Riddle last weekend.
* Jeffcoat has a team-high eight multi-hit games, followed by Cullan O'Shea and Preston Moore with six multi-hit performances each.

SCORING WITH 2 OUTS
* UWF has 130 RBI this season and 60 have come with 2 outs. The team is hitting .277 with 2 outs.
* Cullan O'Shea has 11 of his team-high 20 RBI with 2 outs on a .400 avg. – both marks lead UWF.

DOUBLE YOUR TROUBLE
* With GSC play ongoing, that means doubleheaders will dominate much of the season. The Argos will play 11 doubleheaders throughout the season.
* Over the last four seasons (2019-present), UWF has played 31 DHs, sweeping 16, splitting 13 and being swept just twice. UWF has not lost a DH in 29 of the last 31 DHs.
* In the last seven seasons, UWF has not been swept in a DH even once in four of those and has never been swept more than they have swept an opponent.
