PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF baseball team will play host to Southern Indiana in a doubleheader on Tuesday at Jim Spooner Field. The first game will begin at 2 p.m. with the second to follow 30 minutes after.
The teams were originally scheduled to play single games on Tuesday and Wednesday but the weather forecast prompted the coaches to play both games on Tuesday instead.
This will be the first midweek games for the Argonauts who are offering a $2 Tuesday promotion. Fans can get $2 admission, $2 hot dogs and $2 popcorn at The Spoon.
UWF (10-5) has won its last five contests and is 7-2 at home this season.
Over the last nine games, the Argos have hit .305 with seven home runs and collected 32 extra base hits while going 8-1. Seven of the regular starters are hitting over .300 during that past three weeks as well.
The UWF pitching staff and defense has held opponents to a .228 batting average and fashioned a 4.00 earned run average.
Southern Indiana (6-3) comes to Northwest Florida after dropping it's last two games to seventh-ranked Trevecca Nazarene in a Saturday doubleheader. The Screaming Eagles have lost three of their last four after opening the season with 5-consecutive victories.
Seven players are hitting over .300 for USI, which has a .302 team batting average. The offense ranks eighth nationally with a .468 on-base percentage and 13th with 10.5 runs per game. The Eagles have scored at least eight runs in all six of their wins and no more than four in their three losses.
This will be the third time since 2018 that the teams have met in a midweek series in Pensacola. UWF won both games in 2018 and again in March 2020 just before the COVID-19 Pandemic forced the shutdown of sports worldwide.
After Tuesday's action, UWF will travel to West Alabama for a 3-game series this Saturday and Sunday.
