Rizzetto, Dorr, Patterson, and Markwardt Earn All-American Status on the First Day of NCAA Competition

The Argos placed seventh in the 200 Free relay to earn this honor

GREENSBORO, N.C.-
The No. 10 West Florida Women's Swimming team had a great start to the NCAA Division II Championships on Wednesday, scoring 21 poiints over two events to sit in 12th place .

This week the UWF Swimming and Diving Team moved up to #10 in the latest CSCAA Swimming and Diving Poll.

Ester Rizzetto dominated in the pool bringing home two All-American honors. In the 50 Free, she finished fifth in her first individual event at the NCAA Championships this year with a time of 22.81. She dropped her time 0.07 seconds and earned a new personal best. This makes it her fourth straight year scoring in the 50 free. Rizzetto is currently the second fastest 50 free swimmer in UWF program history.

In her first individual event of the championships this year, Yael Danieli placed 22nd in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:20.58.

During the evening portion of day one, the Argonauts finished seventh in the 200 Free relay earning All-American status with 1:33.41.

Stefanie Markwardt led off the relay with a personal best 23.35, vaulting her into fifth place all-time in school history. Markwardt was followed by Aimee Patterson, Brooke Dorr, and Ester Rizzetto.

This makes Aimee Patterson's first time earning All-American status while Dorr has two, Markwardt has seven, and Rizzetto adds to her school-record 19.

"We are proud of the ladies for their efforts this season," said head swimming and diving coach Phil Kraus. "Peaking at Conference and then again at Nationals is difficult, but the ladies came through with some great performances. It is awesome that they were able to accomplish All-American swims today." 

Thursday's competition will feature the 100 Fly, 400 IM, 200 Free and 3-meter diving competition. Markwardt and Rizzetto will be competing in the 100 Fly. Danieli will be swimming the 400 IM in her second individual event at the NCAA Championship.

In the diving well, Kelsey DeJesus and Daniela Reyes will be competing for the Argos in the 3-meter competition hoping to continue the momentum for West Florida.

Up Next: The swimming portion of the meet continue on Thursday, March 10 with prelims at 9 AM (CT) and finals at 5 PM (CT). The diving portion will start no later than 1 PM (CT) on Thursday as well.
