PENSACOLA, Fla. - The UWF baseball team heads to the Mississippi Delta this weekend for a series at No. 14 Delta State. The first game is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

This is the first trip to Delta State for the baseball program since the 2019 season. Last year's regular-season series was moved to Pensacola for weather and then the teams also met in the GSC Championship Series (3 games) and once in the NCAA South Regional at Jim Spooner Field. The all-time series is tied 38-38 but the Statesmen lead 15-9 at Harvey Stadium-Ferriss Field.

The series is a matchup of the top two teams in the GSC. DSU is first at 15-5 and UWF is in second at 14-7. It also features two of the top defenses in the country, with UWF ranked ninth with a .976 fielding pct. and DSU ranked 16th at .972.

UWF (20-15 overall) split a midweek series at North Georgia. The Argonauts are hitting .271 as a team and have posted double-digit hits totals in four of the last five games. Trent Jeffcoat leads the offense and ranks second in the GSC with a .417 batting average and has reached base in 34 games this season. Cullan O'Shea has a team-high seven home runs and 36 RBI. His 21 career home runs are tied for fifth in UWF history and just three from becoming the record holder.

The Argo pitching staff has a 4.69 earned run average and all 11 pitchers saw action in the midweek.

Delta State (23-10 overall) is batting .296 and averaging 8.6 hits per game. The Statesmen have five players hitting over .300, led by Carson Clowers at .396. DSU has a 5.57 ERA. They are 10-3 at home this season and 7-1 against GSC foes. They have not lost a series since the GSC-opener at Shorter.
