PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF men's basketball team fell into an early hole and battled back to within a possession late before falling to AUM, 70-65, at the UWF Field House on Thursday.
Daniel Sofield and
Wendell Matthews each had 20 points for UWF (12-13, 8-13 Gulf South) who shot 41 percent.
AUM (14-12, 12-10) finished with 39 percent shooting and held a 44-40 rebounding edge.
The Warhawks led 16-3 early and 27-10 with 6:51 to play in the half. The Argonauts battled back and cut the deficit to 37-32 at the break.
In the second half, UWF pulled to within one twice, including with 55 seconds left on a
Jejuan Weatherspoon layup. AUM made two free throws with 27 seconds left for a 3-point lead. The Argos committed a turnover on their next possession and were forced to foul the Warhawks who made two free throws to get the win.
James Graham had 17 points and 10 rebounds, making 7-of-11 in the game. Sam Youngblood made two 3-pointers and ended with 10 points.
UWF will host Montevallo on Saturday at 4 p.m. for its final home game of the season.
