PENSACOLA, Fla. – Daniel Sofield scored a career-high 31 points and was part of a 6-man senior class that combined to score 90 points in a 102-79 win over Montevallo at the UWF Field House on Saturday.
Sofield got things going early as he scored seven points in the first seven minutes as UWF raced out to a 14-6 lead. The Argonauts held a high single-digit lead for most of the half before a Sofield three in the final minute put them ahead 42-30. He finished making 13-of-18 in the game along with five assists.
Meanwhile, classmate
LaTrell Tate was doing his thing with 17 of his 27 in the second half. Sofield made four 3-pointers and Tate had five of UWF's 12 in the game and also handed out five dimes.
The Argonauts went wild scoring the ball in the second half, putting up 53 points in the first 15 minutes to stretch the lead to 95-65. UWF's 60-point second half has only been bettered this season by 63 in the first half of the earlier meeting the UM back on New Year's Eve.
UWF (13-13, 9-13 Gulf South) ended with 55 percent shooting and was 12-of-24 from outside, one shy of a season-high. They were also 18-of-22 at the free throw line.
The Argos controlled the glass as well, posting a plus-10 rebound margin with a 40-30 edge.
UM (10-17, 8-15) got 28 points from Mason Shifflett and 26 from Braxton Bertolette.
UWF will return to play with a pair of road games next week, traveling to Alabama Huntsville on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and West Alabama on Saturday at 4 p.m.
