ABOUT LAST WEEK
The results went more in UWF's favor at last weekend's Panther Invitational, as the Argonauts went 3-1 against South Region teams.
UWF hit .311 over the weekend and turned in a pair of dominant performances on Saturday, against Rollins and Embry-Riddle.
Erin Moon and
Madelyn Vasquez each had multiple hits in both games on Saturday. Those were Moon's first two multi-hit games of the year, and Vasquez leads the team with four multi-hit contests.
Vasquez extended her hitting streak to five games and led the team in batting (.643), runs (5), hits (9), doubles (2), RBIs (4), and slugging (.929) over the weekend. Moon, Ford, and
Madilynne Webb each hit over .400 on the weekend.
Jeya Prasad and
Montana Young were both outstanding on Saturday, allowing one run apiece over 14 innings of work.
SCOUTING FLAGLER
Flagler enters the weekend with a 3-4 record, having split a doubleheader on Wednesday with Barry. The Saints have also split a doubleheader with Eckerd and fallen to Embry-Riddle early in the year.
Flagler has hovered right around .500 for the last two seasons, with a 25-27 record in 2022. Abbey O'Connor leads the offense, with a .333 average and eight hits through seven games, and Cassidy Crump leads the way with five RBIs.
Jordan Sheets has impressed so far, with a 2-0 record and a 0.00 ERA through 15.0 innings of work. Madelyn Wise looks to be the No. 1 for Flagler, with a 4.00 ERA across three complete game starts.
IT'S A GOOD DEFENSE
UWF has led the conference in fielding percentage each full season since
Ashliegh McLean took over in 2019. It is no surprise that you'll see the Argonauts on top of the conference leaderboard again this year, with a stunning .990 fielding percentage.
That mark leads the GSC and ranks fifth in Division II early in the season. West Florida, with 150 putouts, has 54 more putouts than any of the four teams ahead of them and has only made two errors in the first eight games of the year.
PICKING UP WHERE SHE LEFT OFF
Madelyn Vasquez is hitting a ridiculous .520 through the first eight games of the season, ranking third in the Gulf South Conference in hits (13) and second in doubles (5).
That's more of the same for Vasquez, who was an All-GSC and All-South Region pick last season, after hitting 11 home runs and ranking second among UWF players with a .604 slugging percentage, 9 doubles, and 24 walks.
