INDIANAPOLIS – The UWF women's basketball team came in ranked No. 9 in the second edition of the NCAA Division II regional rankings as announced by the organization Wednesday.
UWF is 19-6 on the season and currently in third place in the Gulf South Conference with an 18-4 record.
Tampa is listed as the No. 1 team with a 25-1 record. Eckerd is No. 2 and has a 21-4 record following its second loss to Tampa last week. A trio of Gulf South Conference teams are next with Union at No. 3, Lee at No. 4 and Valdosta State at No. 5. Nova Southeastern, Tuskegee and Lynn are at Nos. 6-8, just ahead of the Argos. Savannah State is listed at No. 10
The region polls will determine the seeding for the NCAA South Region Tournament in March. The eight-team tournament will consist of the three conference tournament champions from the South region (Gulf South, Sunshine and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conferences) and five at-large bids. The women's regional will be March 10, 11 and 13 at the location of the top seed.
