PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The University of West Florida baseball team prepares for home opener against 10
th-ranked Rollins in a three-game series at Jim Spooner Field. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Friday Feb. 10, 2 p.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday.

Tickets for chairbacks are $10, general admission is $7 and students, seniors, and military tickets are $5.

The Argos will have a quick turnaround on Tuesday, Feb. 14 and take on Spring Hill at 5 p.m. The game will be $2 tickets and hot dogs.

About the Argonauts
* UWF is 2-1 after winning an away series from Florida Southern last week – all games were a one run difference with two games going into extra innings. The Argos dropped the first game of the doubleheader 3-2, before claiming a 2-1 win in the night game and a 7-6 decision on Sunday afternoon.
* UWF went 22-24 in 2022 and finished seventh in the Gulf South Conference at 15-13.
* The Argos return eight starters and have added 12 transfers to the list. Â

Preseason Poll
* UWF was picked sixth in the Gulf South Conference Preseason Coaches Poll along with two preseason all-conference selections that was announced Jan. 26.
* The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper released their preseason top-40 and UWF is receiving votes among the list. The poll, voted on by the coaches of each of the eight NCAA Division II regions, features 40 teams during the preseason poll and necks down to 30 during the regular season.

A Look Back in Last Week's Series Win Over Florida Southern
* The series win was UWF's second series win in a row. The team snapped a 5-year drought in the 2022 season after winning the series in a 2-1 finish.

Dalton Neuschwander was the starting pitcher for UWF and opened game one against Florida Southern Saturday afternoon. Despite only allowing one run in eight innings, the team fell short off a FSC game-winning homerun in the 11
th inning … Kade Mandershied earned his first win at UWF in the 2-1 win in game two allowing two hits and one run with four strikeouts on 5.1 innings pitched.

Jacob Bailey,
Jadon Fryman and
Trent Jeffcoat each had a hit in all three games and led the weekend with four hits apiece … Fryman ended opening weekend with two runs and a .364 batting average … Junior
Preston Moore had one hit, drew two walks, was hit twice and earned an RBI.

Josh Prizina earned four RBI (two each in Saturday's double header games) followed by designated hitter
Tyler Dowdy with three that occurred in Sunday's game … Dowdy hit the team's first home run of the season in the 7-6 win and Grabsky earned his first game-winning homerun to secure the series win.
* Redshirt freshman Zach Stokes had his collegiate debut on Sunday's game. Stokes finished the weekend with one hit and  two walks with a .333 batting average and had three putouts in the outfield.
* UWF went 4-for-5 in stolen base attempts.

Darrien McDowell leads the team with 22 put outs and two assists and was involved in three double play with Grabsky and Jeffcoat.

GSC and NCBWA Pitcher of the Week

Dalton Neuschwander suited up for the first time as an Argo over the weekend and is already getting recognition as he is the Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Week and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association South Region Pitcher of the Week.
* Neuschwander opened the season on the mound for UWF to take on Florida Southern Saturday afternoon. In eight innings pitched and 28 batters faced, he only allowed two hits, one run and had eight strikeouts. The team was up 2-1 over the opponent when he concluded the eighth inning. During his outing, Neuschwander held the Mocs scoreless through the opening four frames and did not allow a hit or run from the sixth to the eighth …He is the first player since 2014 to earn GSC Pitcher of the Week in opening week for UWF.Â

UWF's Weekend Rotation
* Three transfer right-handed pitchers will be this weekend's rotation against the Tars. UWF will send out
Dalton Neuschwander to the mound on Friday. The sophomore out of Spanish Fort, Ala. will continue to make an impact on the defense. Last week, he received a no decision in the 3-2 loss over FSC, allowing one run and two hits while striking out eight on 8.0 IP. The transfer from Coastal Alabama South had 15 appearances with nine starts. He went 4-2 with two saves and a 5.84 ERA over 37 innings pitched.
* Coming from Polk State,
Kade Manderscheid will start Saturday's game for his second outing in a UWF uniform. Manderscheid earned his first win for the Argos last week in a 2-1 win over FSC. With a current ERA of 1.69, he allowed two hits and one run while striking out four in 5.1 innings pitched and 17 batters faced. The Riverview, Fla. native had 19 appearances last year and ended 5-3. In 44 innings pitched, he had 49 strikeouts and had a 3.27 ERA.
* For Sunday's match to finish off the weekend,
Major Posey out of Tallahassee, Fla. will step on the mound. He began his career at UCF then played at Polk State last year. With them, he went 5-5 in 16 appearances and 12 starts. He ended the season with 56 strikeouts in 59.1 innings pitched. He received a no decision last week in the 7-6 win over FSC to take the series. Adding a strikeout to his name, he pitched 4.0 innings and faced 19 batters.

About No. 10 Rollins
* Rollins is 2-0 on the season. The Tars opening with a 4-1 win over Florida Tech followed by a 9-4 win against Saint Leo.
* Rollins went 43-17 in 2022 and won the NCAA South Super Regional against Tampa. The Tars made their way to the World Series and the season came to an end after a loss to Point Loma in the national championships … The team was picked fourth in the SSC Preseason Poll.
* Kyle Bullock, Joey Rubin and Adams Torres lead with four hits each … Bullock has hit .800 so far with a double, a run and an RBI.

UWF vs. Rollins History
* UWF leads the series 21-13 dating back to 2004. The Argos took two of three in Pensacola in 2020 and the Tars won both games in Winter Park in 2020. From 2011-19, UWF went 16-2, winning six series dating back to the national championship season of 2011.
* The team have played at least once a year from 2008-202, with 2016 being the only year they didn't meet.
* Rollins took all three games last year and each game was just a one-run difference with game two going into ten innings.

About Spring Hill
* The Badgers kicked off their season against Montevallo on Feb. 7 and is 1-0 on the season. Six players scored a run in their 6-2 win and was led by Jackson Bell and Luke Sweeney who have a .333 batting average thus far. In 3 at bats a piece, they each earned a run and a hit with Bell earning four RBI and Sweeney getting a double.
* Redshirt junior Jack Lahr earned the win after allowing one hit with one strikeout on 2 IP.

* UWF has won 15 of the last 18 games since 2015 and have gone 8-2 in the last ten matchups.
* UWF and Spring Hill faced each other twice in 2022 and each team took home a win. Spring Hill took the first game, 6-3, and UWF took a 4-2 win in the second meet up.
