PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The University of West Florida baseball team heads to Alabama to play a single nonconference game against Spring Hill. The final midweek game is set for 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 19 at Historic Sims-Galle Field.
 
UWF is on a hot nine-game winning streak. The Argos have swept their latest two opponents – West Georgia and Auburn Montgomery – along with a series win against Montevallo and a single game over Spring Hill.
 
UWF and Spring Hill have played each other three times throughout the season. The Argos have come out victorious in all contests.
 
The most recent game against the Badgers was at home, April 4. UWF won in eight innings, 13-3. This was their second game that resulted in a run-rule win.  
 
How it Happened
Coming down from a 3-0 deficit to enter the seventh inning, the Argos hammered nine runs on six hits to take a 9-3 lead. The scoring began with a True Fontenot RBI double in the bottom of the seventh. Jacob Bailey entered the game to pinch hit and got himself a single that allowed Fontenot to advance to third. Later, Fontenot found himself running home to close the Badgers gap and sit at a one-run game.
 
The next four at bats were three singles and a Badger error that added six Argo runs. Going through the order, Bailey capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly to bring the score to 9-3 in the Argos favor.
 
The Argos continued to pounce on the Badgers in the eighth and score four more runs Preston Moore sailed a two-run homer to left field. This was Moore's third home run of the season. He went 2-for-5 and tallied four RBI. The play was followed with a Mike Scordo RBI double. Scordo later got the 13^th and final run off a wild pitch to conclude the game.
 
Argos in the GSC Standings
UWF and Montevallo are tied for first in the standings with a 16-8 conference record. Montevallo has a slight overall record edge at 32-10 (.762%) compared to Argos 25-14 (.641%).
 
Spring Hill in the SIAC Standings
Spring Hill is second in the SIAC with a 25-16 record and 23-4 in conference. Their four conference losses have come from Edward Waters, Miles, and two games against Savannah State.
 
About Spring Hill
Norris McClure leads the Badgers with a .389 batting average. Four other players are hitting a .300 and above. McClure totals 58 hits, 11 doubles, four triples and two homeruns. He is third on the team in RBI (39).
 
Starting pitchers Logan Clark and Evan Langston are both 7-1 in double digit starts and appearances. Kai St. Germaine is 5-2 in nine starts and nine appearances. Langston leads the group with 60 strikeouts and holds his opponents to a .157 hitting average. Clark has a 2.19 ERA which is the best of the Badgers pitchers.
 
Before taking on the Argos on Wednesday, Spring Hill will play West Alabama on Tuesday, April 18.

In the last 10 matchups, the Argos are 9-1. The loss came in 2022 and finished with a 6-3 score.
 
Major Posey, Jack Bellah and Salvatore Ferro got the wins in the previous 2023 contests. The battle of the teams began in February. In the recent three games, UWF has scored 32 runs while holding the Badgers to 14.
