PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF head men's basketball coach
Jeff Burkhamer announced that Ankit Choudhary, a 6-foot-1 combo guard from Toronto, Canada has signed a scholarship to play for the Argonauts beginning in the 2023-2024 season.
Choudhary spent the last two seasons playing at Toronto Metro University where he scored 472 points and made 68 3-pointers in 39 games. As a sophomore in 2022-23, he averaged 13.3 points per game, shot 55 percent from the floor, 49 percent from 3-point range, 81 percent from the line, and handed out 4 assists per game. He had a season-high 27 points against Waterloo when he went 7-of-9 from outside. Choudhary made three or more triples in six games and led Canada in 3-point field goal percentage.
In two seasons he shot 49 percent from outside, making 68-of-138 3-pointers. He reached double figures in scoring 25 times for the Bold.
"Ankit Choudhary is a combo guard that can score and pass, and he is a seasoned player having played a season of junior college basketball in the states and a season at the 4-year level in Canada. He will come to UWF fully prepared to compete in the Gulf South Conference," Burkhamer said. "Ankit is a versatile guard that can make plays for himself or for others. He can also slide to the shooting guard spot because he shoots the ball so well. He is a very smart player that can play with or without the ball. He is also a good midrange shooter and is an excellent free throw shooter. Ankit can get his own shot or can get shots for others with his ability to penetrate and make decisions. He is a skilled guard that we really need to compete in this league."
Choudhary will be counted on this year to play quality minutes. "Ankit gives us a quality and seasoned guard. He comes in with college game experience and knows what it takes to play at this level. He needs to be an immediate impact player for us on both ends of the floor."
He played his final season of secondary ball at Canada Topflight Academy, an elite-level prep school in Ottawa.
Choudhary will be majoring in Business Management at UWF.
