LIVINGSTON, Ala. --- #16 Argos split Saturday's doubleheader on the road to take the series win over West Alabama. This was UWF's first conference contest and GSC series win.

Argos (9-3, 2-1 GSC) are tied for third in the GSC with three opponents on a .667 conference percentage.

UWF seemed to have the opening doubleheader game in the bag but the Tigers fought their way through in the final inning.

The eighth inning alone involved eight totaled runs scored – five by the Argos, three by the Tigers.

UWF had a 14-9 lead heading into the ninth frame. West Alabama managed to put up six runs with the winning run being scored on a loaded bases, hit by pitch scenario. The final run put the Tigers on top for a 15-14 win.

The game was a constant battle. Outside of the Tigers eight-run comeback in the final two innings, both teams were neck and neck.

Three homeruns occurred by
Darrien McDowell,
Preston Moore and
Dean Hotz for six combined runs.
Â
Five Argonauts recorded two hits apiece to lead the team.

Dean Hotz put the Argos on board first in the second inning off an RBI outfield single. His next at bat was a homerun in the fourth inning. His first homerun of the season was a two-run homer that tied the game at four-all.

McDowell followed the inning with a sacrifice fly to bring a UWF runner in and gain the lead, 5-4.

McDowell continued to pounce on the Tigers in the sixth inning with a three-run homerun and increased the lead to 8-4.

UWF's next run was answered with yet another homerun by senior infielder,
Preston Moore. This was Moore's first homer of the season.

The Argos kept the momentum going and put up five consecutive runs to sit at a 14-7 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth.

The Tigers responded with eight consecutive runs to take the win.

Game two resulted in a one-sided result with the Argos taking the victory 17-2. West Alabama runs came in the first inning off a solo homerun and a run in the seventh inning.
The Argos got on the board first in the opening frame with a two RBI double by Moore. From the second inning to the seventh, UWF scored 16 consecutive runs.

McDowell led the game with four RBI and joined Moore in going 2-for-3 at the plate. Scordo went a perfect 2-for-2 and tallied an RBI. Three additional Argonauts racked up two hits each to contribute to UWF's 18 total hits.

13 of UWF's runs came in the final two innings. Of the 17 runs scored, 15 of them were recorded as RBIs.

UWF will conclude their eight-game road slate with Columbus State. They will play a single game on Tuesday (Feb. 27) and Wednesday (Feb. 28) for a non-conference two-game series.
