Box Score COLUMBUS, Ga. --- The University of West Florida baseball team fell 15-8 in the opening series at Columbus State's home turf.
 
Argos (9-4) will have another opportunity to take on the Cougars tomorrow, Feb. 28 at 2:00 p.m. ET/ 1:00 p.m. CT at Ragsdale Field.
 
Columbus State (8-7) grabbed an early 4-0 lead in the first inning and added five runs in the second to extend their lead to 9-0. CSU's lead lasted for the entirety of the game.
 
UWF brought their first runs through in the third frame. Trent Jeffcoat led off the inning with a walk. He showed his speed and made his way home by Darrien McDowell's RBI double. McDowell scored the final run of the inning on a Preston Moore outfield single.
 
The Cougars responded with a run in the fourth inning and the Argos sat at a 10-2 deficit.
 
The Argos never quit and put up an incredible fight. UWF scored six runs on six hits in the fifth to put themselves back into the game.
 
In the fifth frame, the Argos sent two runs in. This gave UWF loaded bases on no outs opportunity.
 
Dean Hotz was the man you wanted at the plate in this situation. The outfielder hit a perfectly placed ball that sent the Cougar's outfielders chasing. His hit cleared the bases and added three RBI to his name. McDowell made his next at bat appearance and sent Hotz in on an RBI single to decrease the Cougars lead.
 
The score was 10-8 and the two-run gap was the closest the Argos could come. CSU put up five more runs while the Argos were kept scoring through the final four innings.
 
The Argos were outhit 21-14. Jadon Fryman led with three hits and four Argonauts followed with two hits apiece.
