#16 Argos Prepare for Five-Game Home Slate

PENSACOLA, Fla. --- No. 16 Argos prepare for their next five games at home. UWF will continue with GSC play for a three-game conference series against Christian Brothers and follow with a mid-week two-game series against non-conference opponent, Georgia Southwestern.
 
UWF and Christian Brothers will begin the series at Jim Spooner Field with a single game on Friday, March 15 at 5:00 p.m. followed with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 16 at 1:00 p.m.
 
The team will stay home for a pair of mid-week games Tuesday (March 19) and Wednesday (March 20). Tuesday's match will take place at Blue Wahoos Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. The Argos will return to Jim Spooner Field for Wednesday's game at 2:00 p.m.

  • Dalton Neuschwander received a no decision in his eight-inning performance. He kept the Argos in the lead during his outing in the series opener.
Heath Named GSC Pitcher of the Week
  • Heath made his second start of the season and first start in a conference series matchup. After splitting Saturday's (March 9) doubleheader with Mississippi College, the junior made his appearance on the mound for the series deciding game (March 10).
  • Heath uplifted UWF to their fifth series win in a 6-3 victory. He pitched a complete game of nine innings and improved to 3-2 on the mound. He held Mississippi College to two earned runs on six hits. He tied his season-high of six strikeouts thrown.
  • Mississippi College was held to no hits in five frames, four of which were consecutive, during his outing. Heath kept his opponents scoreless through 6.2 frames. Before entering the eighth frame, Heath allowed just three hits on an unearned run. The final two earned runs were scored in the ninth frame that cut the Argo lead in half.
Scouting Christian Brothers Buccaneers
  • The Bucs are 10-13 overall, 5-7 in GSC.
  • Out of 13 teams, the Bucs are ninth in the standings.
  • They've taken series losses to West Georgia, Montevallo, and Shorter. They recently took a series win over Union (March 9-10).
  • CBU took an 11-7 single game loss to Bethel on Tuesday (March 12).
  • Junior Cory Steinhauer leads the team offensively with a .373 average. In 21 starts, he's second in hits (28), first in doubles (7) and third in RBI (20)
  • Royal Hobson follows with a .349 average in 23 consecutive starts. He leads in hits (30), second in homers (6) and the best on base percentage (.468).
  • AJ Gamboa and Charlie Faoro record seven appearances each on the mound. Gamboa sit on top with a 6.56 ERA with Faora leads the squad with 32 innings pitched and 25 strikeouts.
Argo vs. Buccaneer History
  • The Argos are 28-1 over the Bucs in history trailing back to 2012.
  • Their first game against each other resulted in a loss for UWF but the Argos have won 28 straight games since then.
  • The teams haven't played against each other since 2022. UWF swept the Bucs in a three-game series. The first game was a 12-inning battle with the series finale resulting in a 14-0 run-rule victory.
