NORMAN, Okla. – UWF men's golf coach
Steve Fell was named the 2024 Golf Pride Grips South Region Coach of the Year in an announcement by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Wednesday.
For Fell, it is his sixth region award and fourth in the last seven seasons. He previously won the award in 2001, 2003, 2017, 2018 and 2021.
UWF posted a 284.29 stroke average in 2023-24 for the third-lowest mark in school history. The Argos collected nine top-five finishes in 12 tournaments.
The 1991 UWF alum just completed his 30th season leading the Argonauts as they finished tied for fifth at the NCAA Championships. UWF's top eight finish after stroke play at the championships continued the most consistent current stretch in Division II men's golf as the Argos have qualified for match play in seven of the last eight championships, making them the only school to do so.
Fell led the Argonauts to the 2024 GSC Championship, bringing their total to a league-record 20. For Fell, who began at UWF in 1995, it is his record 19th Coach of the Year Award as voted by his peers in 28 seasons of GSC awards.
