UWF Sweeps Series Against Christian Brothers, Sets Season-High In Runs

Argos crush Lady Bucs 18-0, trigger run rule in five innings.

PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF Softball (9-6, 4-2) left no doubt in its series-closing win over the Christian Brothers Lady Bucs (6-9, 0-6).

The Argos secured the series sweep and set a season-high in runs recorded with 18 after setting their season high in hits yesterday (15). Eight out of the nine batters in UWF's lineup recorded a hit, including seven extra base hits. Their 11 run second inning is the most of any inning this season and would be the third highest run total of any of their 15 games in 2025.

UWF continues to lead the conference in slugging and related statistics, with a GSC-leading .529 team slugging percentage. Their 15 home runs and 10 triples are also all conference leading stats, and their 20 doubles are second.

Gianna Guerriero went a perfect 4-4 at the plate with four runs, two RBI and a triple. She also stole a season high four bases and is second in the GSC with 13 on the season.

Hannah Harper went 2-2 at the plate with three runs and 4 RBI. She also bombed her team-leading fourth home run on the season with a solo blast in the second inning.

Angelia Discenza finished off her impressive weekend with another stellar performance, knocking a GSC-leading fourth triple of the season and three RBI with two runs.

Haley Guffey (5-3) earned her second shutout of the weekend, holding the Bucs to just two hits and one walk in five innings pitched and two strikeouts. Her season ERA improves to 1.81 and is now top 5 in the GSC.

The Argos claimed a five-run first inning beginning with Guerriero bunting to take base and being brought home on an Erin Moon RBI single after a steal and a wild pitch. Emma Brice knocked a two-RBI double to bring in Moon and Harper. Mergen scored Brice on an RBI single, and Mergen scored on a Holliday triple.

The Argos were just getting started, as they added 11 runs to their 5-0 margin in the second inning.  Guerriero led off at the top of the order and again scored after two steals and a Harper single that also scored Discenza. Jessie Baughan doubled to score Moon, Brice scored Harper and Baughan on a 2-RBI single, and Mergen again scored Brice on a double.

The Bucs still hadn't recorded an out in the second before the score was 11-0. Holliday was walked and Wolfenden relieved Mergen as a pinch runner. Guerriero recorded two more of her RBI's on a triple to right center and Discenza brought her in on a back-to-back triple. A Moon sac bunt allowed Discenza to score on the throw to first, clearing the bases. Harper added the exclamation point with her solo home run, capping off the inning.

Guffey and the UWF fielders continued a clean afternoon of defense, continuing to hold CBU scoreless. With the score at 16-0, Discenza again reached on an error and allowed Guerriero to score. Discenza scored on a Harper sacrifice flyout to bring the total to 18-0. The final out was recorded in the fifth by Harper on a foul flyout to seal the win for UWF.
