Argos In Third Place After Day One at Emerald Coast Classic

DESTIN, Fla. – The No. 26 UWF women's golf team finished day one of the Emerald Coast Collegiate on Monday in third place among a field of 18 teams.

The tournament was originally supposed to be played over three days for 36 holes, but due to weather was pushed back to be played in two days – on Monday and Tuesday.

"It seems as though we cannot catch a break as far as the weather goes," said head coach Kristen Dorsey. "For the third tournament in a row, inclement weather has been a major factor in playing practice rounds and getting rounds of golf in. The girls have done a great job being patient and being resilient and waiting for the right time or opportunity to come around and play some pretty good golf."

The Argos shot a team score of 591 (+23) in the first two rounds on Monday. The team played consistent between the rounds amidst the cold and windy weather on the course. In round one UWF shot 12-over followed by an 11-over in round two.

Leading the Argos was Alia Scotka with a 140 (-2). The Niceville, Fla. native shot an even 71 in round one and went two-under, 69 in the second round. Scotka is currently just one shot behind second place. The senior team leader had a perfect day on the back nine in each round, not recording a single bogey. Scotka made three birdies on the back nine in round two.

Millie Thompson came in at even with a 72 (+1) in round one and 70 (-1) in round two. The junior currently sits in eighth place.

"I'm really proud of both Alia and Millie for turning in under par rounds on this course with the conditions," Dorsey said. "It's just a great testament to how good of golfers they both are."

The Argos will be back on the course at Sandestin Resort – Baytown Golf Club on Tuesday morning for the final 18 holes of the tournament.

"We are looking forward to tomorrow," Dorsey said. "Sitting in third place I'd like for us to maintain that. Our motto will be 'Win the Day."
