PENSACOLA, Fla. - No. 1 UWF men's tennis (12-1, 4-1 GSC) rebounded from a tough loss at Valdosta State with a 7-0 win over West Alabama (2-7, 0-3 GSC) on Tuesday afternoon at Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. The result is the Argos' sixth win via sweep overall this season and fourth in GSC play.
The Argos wasted no time, going 3-0 in doubles play. In the only ranked matchup of the day, No. 4
Diego Duran and
Sebastian Rondon took down No. 16 Tomas Almeida and Afonso Portugal 6-4. No. 19
Tomas Leston and
Sebastian Sotelo beat Jacob Tapia and Federico Iturbe 6-1.
Miguel Cabrera and
Albin Ekenros finished off the first sweep 6-3 over Eita Ishikawa and Vilislav Bonev.
In singles, No. 29 Duran easily put away Bonev 6-1, 6-0 on court four and No. 35 Sotelo beat Tapia 6-4, 6-4. No. 16 Rondon followed with a win over Portugal on court two 6-2, 6-4. In almost as close a two-set matchup as possible, Ekenros outlasted Almeida on court five 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-5). At the top of the lineup, Cabrera took down Ishikawa 6-3, 6-2 before
Tomas Leston finished off the perfect sweep of the day at the bottom with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Iturbe.
The Argos are back on their home courts tomorrow for a newly scheduled match with DIII Wisconsin-Superior at 1 pm.
