Career Bests Highlight Final Round in Destin

DESTIN, Fla. – It was a successful final round at Baytowne Golf Club at the Sandestin Resort on Tuesday as the UWF women's golf team finished the tournament in third place, but also added a couple individual career best performances.

As a team the Argos shot two-over on the day which was nine strokes better than the second round played on Monday. One of the biggest factors to the day was the breakout performance of sophomore Samantha Schultz who completed her first-ever under par round as an Argo. Schultz recorded a 69 (-2) to lead the day for West Florida. She had just one bogey on the day and three birdies. One of Schultz's best shots of the day came on hole No. 11 – a par 3, 138-yard shot. The Mandeville, La. native put her tee shot within two feet and finished off for birdie. Schultz also closed her round with a birdie and jumped 16 places to finish in 24th place.

Joining Schultz in a career first was Isabella Yu Lee who was playing the round as an individual. The junior had her best round ever and one of the best round of the day across the entire field shooting a 68 (-3). Yu Lee managed a team-high seven birdies on the day. Between holes 8 and 12 Yu Lee was on a hot streak with four birdies and one par.

Leading the tournament individually for the Argos was Alia Scotka with a 211 (-2). The senior went 71; 69; 71 to place fourth overall in her final "home" round in the blue and green surrounded by friends and family. Scotka's hometown of Niceville, Fla. is just around the corner from the Destin area. This was the nearest tournament the Argos have had all season.

"What a day to be an Argo," said head coach Kristen Dorsey. "We had a top five finish with Alia. We had two under par rounds for the first time with Samantha Schultz and Isabella Yu Lee. What made it even better was that they both birdied their last hole. As a coach you love to see that player instead of being scared of closing a red number round they wanted another birdie. And I love the fire they both displayed today – a calming determined fire."

UWF finished the tournament ahead of three teams that are ranked higher nationally and only sat behind two teams that are nationally ranked higher.

The Argos will be in Greenwood, S.C. in two weeks at the Lady Bearcat Invitational hosted by Lander University.
