Argos Take Advantage of Union Miscues for Game One Run-Rule

Bulldog errors, walks give UWF strong win in first game of series.

Box Score JACKSON. Tenn. – UWF Softball (19-8, 12-4) capitalized off of several miscues and cruised to a 10-1 run-rule win over the Union Bulldogs (7-23, 5-12) Friday afternoon. 
 
UWF scored runs on three different errors committed by the Bulldogs and another on walks, reaching double digits in runs for the seventh time this season. 
 
Bella Holliday is now fifth in the Gulf South Conference in batting average and leads UWF with a .435 mark. Holliday went 4 for 4 against the Bulldogs today with a run and an RBI 
 
Gianna Guerriero continues to hold the throne of most stolen bases in the Gulf South Conference, adding two more in the first inning of today's contest. She is still a perfect 26-26 on the season. The senior also went 3 for 4 with two runs and improved her batting average to sixth overall in the GSC at .434.
 
Haley Guffey (12-4) didn't allow an earned run today and finished with four strikeouts and no walks. Her season ERA improves to 2.21. Her 12 wins is second in the GSC and her ERA is seventh.

Guerriero started the day off for UWF with a single, her two stolen bases, and scored on an error from Union's catcher. Discenza doubled and then scored on a Moon RBI single. 
 
In the second, a walk and a couple base hits loaded the bases. Harper earned an RBI with a bases loaded walk, scoring Guerriero. Emma Brice hit an RBI single to bring in Moon and Discenza. 
 
Entering the third, UWF's 5-0 lead was pushed to 6-0 when Bella Holliday got on base yet again with a single and was scored by a Guerriero sacrifice bunt. In the fourth, another error allowed Jessie Baughan to reach and advance to second, scoring Harper. 
 
Union put up one unearned run when the Argos committed an error of their own, allowing a base runner to get to second and scoring on an RBI single. UWF closed the game out in the sixth up 7-1. Harper stole second and an error on the play scored Brett Watson from third. Mergen brought in Harper on an RBI triple, and Mergen scored with a Bella Holliday RBI single. 
 
Up 10-1, Guffey and the UWF defense secured the final three outs to secure the final three outs for the 10-1 six inning win.
