JACKSON, Tenn. – Following Friday's game one loss against Union University, the UWF baseball team dominated the Bulldogs on Saturday with two victories, winning the second game of the series, 20-1 and game three, 9-1.
20 runs are the most the Argos have scored in a game this season and most since last season when they scored 23 at home against Union.
In game one the Argos wasted no time to start lighting up the scoreboard. The team scored seven runs in the first inning.
Brantley Willis drove home the first run when he singled to left center field bringing
Dean Hotz around to home plate. UWF worked well through their entire lineup in the first inning alone.
The Argos scored additional runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings before the game was called in the seventh inning for the run rule.
Ben Maskin continued his strong hitting performance with two hits on four at bats and five RBIs to lead the Argos.
Jacob Heath put together a fantastic performance on the mound for UWF going all seven innings. Heath had six strikeouts while facing 31 batters. The senior gave up nine hits and just one run. It was his third win of the season and first complete game this year.
In the third game of the series West Florida again saw a great pitching performance with
Kade Manderscheid throwing a complete game. The senior allowed only five hits and one run. He faced 28 batters and struck out five.
UWF had 12 hits and seven runs batted in. It was the second straight game with 12 hits.
Cade Easterbrook was 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI. Easterbrook's single in the fourth inning gave the Argos a 5-0 lead at the time.
Six different Argos picked up an RBI in the game.
The win gave UWF its 19th of the season and 13th win in Gulf South Conference play. The Argos are currently tied in conference wins with Mississippi College and sit in third place behind the Choctaws and Delta State.
Up next, West Florida will host Auburn Montgomery for a three-game series. The first game will be Friday at 5 p.m. with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Jim Spooner Field.
