PENSACOLA, Fla. – One run was the difference in both games of Friday's doubleheader with the Argos coming up short against Auburn University at Montgomery. UWF fell in game one, 5-4 and game two, 3-2.
In the first game AUM scored three unanswered runs and took a 5-2 lead in the top of the seventh inning. The Argos were able to get a run back in the bottom of the seventh when
Parker Tubb hit an RBI double down the line. AUM then went three up and three down in the eighth and ninth inning giving UWF a chance to climb back into the game. The Argos put themselves in a good spot in their last at bats with runners in scoring position, including runners on second and third but were only able to come up with one run.
Dalton Neuschwander pitched six innings in the loss striking out four and giving up nine hits and two earned runs.
Chase Stanhope finished the final three innings with two strikeouts and allowing two hits and one run.
In game two, UWF had trouble getting the bats going with five hits in the seven-inning game. The team scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead after AUM opened up the scoring in the top of the inning.
The Warhawks scored two runs in the sixth to take the lead that held for the remainder of the contest.
Jacob Heath took his third loss of the season on the mound. Heath went six innings for UWF.
Brantley Willis came in relief for one inning.
West Florida will look to grab one game back in the series on Saturday. The game time which was scheduled for 11 a.m. has been moved up to a 10 a.m. start at Jim Spooner Field.
