PENSACOLA, Fla. –
Kade Manderscheid pitched a full game shutout to lead the University of West Florida baseball team to a 3-0 win over Auburn University at Montgomery on Saturday.
The win gave the Argos their 20th win of the season.
Manderscheid has had two wins in his last two starts and has pitched full games in those starts. In Saturday's contest with the Warhawks the senior stuck out seven and allowed just six hits.
"
Kade Manderscheid picked us up today," said head coach
Mike Jeffcoat. "We didn't want to end this series on a bad note. We really needed this victory. The team showed a lot of character."
After dropping the first two games of the series on Friday by one run in each game the Argos needed a good response to avoid the sweep. Despite the lack of offense from both teams in what was a quick two-hour long game, UWF found a way to drive home three runs.
The Argos scored two runs in the fourth inning when
Ben Maskin drove home two runs with a single to center field. The team added a third run in the eighth inning after
Brett Rowell's RBI single scored
Cade Easterbrook.
UWF had four hits in the game.
Next up for the Argos is a Tuesday single game against Spring Hill on the road followed by a weekend series at Lee on Friday and Saturday.
