Argos, #5 Warhawks Split Pair of Extra-Inning Games Friday

Erin Moon Hits Walk-Off RBI Single for Game One Win

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The first two games of UWF Softball (24-9, 15-5) versus #5 Auburn Montgomery (23-8, 14-6) were as advertised, as two of the top three teams in the GSC battled it out and split a pair of extra innings games Friday afternoon.

Both games entered the eighth inning tied 1-1 before each team decided the outcome in their next at-bats. Erin Moon was the hero in the Argos' game one win, hitting the walk-off RBI single to left center to take a win over AUM. The Warhawks scored three runs in the top of the eighth in game two to hold on for the series-tying win.

Gianna Guerriero was responsible for almost all of UWF's offensive production in game one, going three for four with a double, two runs and two more stolen bases for her perfect 29-29 conference-leading record.

Maddie Treutlein celebrated her senior day prior to game one, and had her senior day moment in game two, driving in the Argos' only run on an RBI double through the middle.

Haley Guffey earned win no. 15 on the season, the second most in the conference. The junior limited the Warhawks to just four hits and a single earned run in eight innings along with three strikeouts.

UWF 2, #5 AUM 1 in 8 Innings

The Warhawks got two aboard on a single and a walk to begin the game but a couple flyouts ended the inning. The next three and a half innings were three up and three down for both teams until the bottom of the fourth, when the Argos managed two runners into scoring position. UWF couldn't advance them and stranded them both.

The fifth saw both teams go down in order, but the Warhawks struck first in the sixth on a single and an RBI double.  UWF responded immediately on Guerriero's double, steal, and run brought in by Discenza's SAC bunt RBI.

AUM managed nothing in the seventh, and the Warhawks stranded the winning run at third to bring it to extras. The Warhawks again went down in order for the fifth time, and the Argos took over from there. Guerriero singled, stole her second base, advanced to third on a groundout, and RBI-leader Erin Moon scored her on a walk-off single for the 2-1 win in eight innings.

UWF 1, #5 AUM 4 in 8 Innings

Game two went almost the same as game one for the first seven innings. Auburn Montgomery scored first, this time in the second inning. An error scored a runner at second to put Aum up 1-0. Both teams were stifled in the third, but Treutlein had her senior day moment on an RBl double to tie the game up at 1-1.

Both teams managed a combined one hit and two total base runners over the next three innings, sending the game to extras yet again. The Warhawks wasted no time, opening the eighth inning with a double. UWF had the Warhawks down to their final out with a runner on first, but a single and an RBI double gave AUM the lead. Another walk and a 2-RBI double put the game out of reach.

The Argos went down in order to end the game in eight innings, 1-4.
