Sotelo Earns GSC Player of the Week Honors

Graduate Argentinian Goes 6-1 in 4-0 Week for the Argos

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Gulf South Conference announced its weekly tennis awards today for performances in matches from February 23-March 3. Graduate student Sebastian Sotelo won his second career GSC Player of the Week award, as he went 6-1 overall to help No. 2 UWF to a 4-0 week.
 
The native of Resistencia, Argentina, went 3-1 in singles and 3-0 in doubles alongside partner Tomas Leston, helping the Argos to a GSC win at Delta State and wins over No. 16 Cameron, No. 19 Midwestern State and Cameron this past weekend at the GSC-Lonestar Crossover Tournament. 
 
At singles, he defeated Sebastian Hernandez of Delta State 6-1, 6-1 before overcoming a 2-6, 4-6 loss to Artiom Dorofeev of UT Tyler to take down Stephen Slocombe of MSU 6-3, 6-2 and Noe Milliard of Cameron 6-1, 6-0. At No. 3 doubles, he and Leston claimed victories of 6-2 over Job Japelj and Arthur Miquelard of UT Tyler, 6-4 over Philip Kamara and Jose Marquez and 6-2 again over Louis Boilevin and Brendan Lock. 
 
Sotelo and the Argos travel to Valdosta, Ga., this weekend for a huge Friday matchup with the top team in the conference and the nation in the Blazers of Valdosta State that could decide the GSC regular season title if not more, as it did last year. The next day, they take on South Region foe Lynn.
