Men’s Tennis Sweeps No. 11 FSC in Valdosta

Argos with Ninth Sweep of the Season, Third Called Early

VALDOSTA, Ga. - No. 1 UWF men's tennis (19-1, 7-1 GSC) is leaving Valdosta with a win this time, after easily dispatching No. 11 Florida Southern (14-7, 4-3 SSC) 4-0 in a neutral-site match. This is the Argos' ninth win via sweep this season, and their third that was called at the minimum after the ITA Indoor Championship match versus Washburn and the win at Delta State. It is also the team's first win in Valdosta since almost a year ago against Hawaii Pacific. The Argos have won all 16 meetings with the Mocs in their history.

Albin Ekenros and Sebastian Sotelo got the day started off on court two with a 6-3 win over Bosko Boskovic and George Russell, but one court down, Sam Frizelle and Matthew Hewitt equalized with a 7-5 win over Miguel Cabrera and Bernardo Costa. The opening point came down to a ranked matchup at No. 1, where the third-ranked doubles pairing in DII in Diego Duran and Sebastian Rondon were pushed to the edge by No. 44 Chris Fok Kow and Mario Garoz but pulled it out via tiebreaker 7-6 (7-2).

On court one of singles, Cabrera, ranked No. 7 in the ITA DII Singles Rankings, had a score to settle with No. 63 Frizelle and did so easily 6-1, 6-2. At the bottom of the lineup, Alex Maulouet was next to finish off his opponent, doing so by a 6-4, 6-1 margin over Gabriel Jornert. One court up, Ekenros wrapped this one up in short order with a pair of 6-4 sets over Russell. UWF claimed the first set in each of the other three matchups with No. 11 Rondon, No. 31 Sotelo and No. 43 Duran.

The Argos step outside of South Region and DII play as they travel to take on New Orleans of the DI Southland Conference on Friday, April 18 at 10 am in a return trip after their home contest with the Privateers last season was rained out.
