#3 Argos Look for Third Consecutive GSC Tournament Title

PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The University of West Florida baseball team clinched their 18th berth to the Gulf South Conference Tournament under head coach Mike Jeffcoat. The Argos grabbed the three-seed after finishing the regular season with a 31-17, 22-11 GSC record.
 
UWF heads into the tournament as back-to-back defending champions – taking the crown in 2024 and 2023. Since 2023, the Argos are 10-2 in the conference tournament.
 
The eight-team double elimination tournament will begin Friday, May 2 and will run through Tuesday, May 6 at Choccolocco Park. UWF will open the tournament over 6-seed Trevecca Nazarene (22-25, 17-16 GSC) at 10:00 a.m. Trevecca Nazarene just joined the GSC this season and will be participating in their first GSC Tournament in baseball history.
 
The Argos swept the Trojans in a three-game series in March. UWF took a close 3-0 win but followed with a solid 12-1 and 10-4 victory.
 
The Argos concluded the regular season with a series win over Valdosta State (April 25-26), who sits as the 2-seed in the GSC Tournament.
 
Sitting at the top of the list is Delta State. The Statesmen hold a 32-16, 23-10 GSC record. The Argos defeated DSU 2-1 in a three-game series matchup. (Feb. 28-March 1). UWF opened the series with a 4-0 loss but followed with two consecutive wins to take it all (2-0, 6-2).
 
Mississippi College was placed as the 4-seed (31-19, 21-12 GSC) and West Alabama follows in the fifth spot (27-22, 18-15).
 
Lee (24-24, 16-17) and Montevallo (25-23, 16-17) grabbed the final two spots in the GSC Tournament. The Argos fell to both teams 2-1 in a three-game series during the regular season. Over conference opponents this season, the Argos took just three series losses.
 
The Argos placed six All-GSC selections that was announced Thursday afternoon. Redshirt freshman Alex Urias was named Freshman Player of the Year as well as a second team honoree. Joining Urias on second team all-conference is starting pitchers Jacob Heath and Kade Manderscheid and shortstop, Dom Presto.
 
A pair of Argonauts were named First Team All-GSC. Dalton Neuschwander was named first team for the third consecutive season and Brett Rowell grabbed his first All-GSC accolade.
