SAINT LEO, Fla. – The opening game of the Argos' campaign at the NCAA DII South Regional did not go as hoped, as 6-Seed UWF Softball (37-16, 22-11) lost its rematch to the 3-Seed Auburn Montgomery Warhawks 1-5 Thursday afternoon.
 
The Argos walked it off against the Warhawks in the GSC Championship just four days ago and couldn't produce the same result. UWF took an early one-run lead in the second and was tied 1-1 heading into the fifth, but multiple late errors allowed the Warhawks to capitalize and take a sizeable lead. 
 
Haley Guffey and Hannah Harper held the Warhawks to six hits and one earned run despite the fielding errors. Guffey allowed one hit in four innings with a strikeout and no walks.
 
UWF will play the 7-Seeded Mississippi College Choctaws in an elimination game tomorrow at 3:00 PM EST. If they win, they will play the loser of AUM and Saint Leo shortly after. Saint Leo defeated the Choctaws 1-0 earlier Thursday afternoon.
UWF 1, AUM 5 – NCAA DII South Regional
 
Both teams went down in order to start the game. Nevaeh Hayes was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a Harper single. Emma Brice advanced both to third and second on a sacrifce bunt, and Jessie Baughan hit a sacrifice fly out to score Hayes. 
 
The Argos put the Warhawks down in order for the next two innings and only managed a single and walk in that time. The Warhawks opened the fourth with a single, advanced the runner to second on an error, and scored them on another error the next play. 
 
UWF went 1-2-3 in the fifth, and the Warhawks took control shortly after that. Aum opened the inning with a three singles and a fielder's choice. The third single of the inning resulted in three runs for the Warhawks on a fielding error in the outfield. Another RBI groundout followed shortly after.UWF closed the inning, but the Warhawks had jumped on top, 1-5. 
 
Erin Moon singled in the sixth but was stranded after the Warhawks turned a double play. The Argos took out the Warhawks 1-2-3 for the fourth inning of the game. Down to their final three outs, the Argos couldn't get on base and went down in order to be forced to the loser's bracket in the regional.
