LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Florida men's basketball earned a statement road win Thursday night, knocking off No. 8 West Alabama Tigers, 78–75, at Pruitt Hall.
West Florida (16-4, 9-3 GSC) shot 57.7 percent from the field and a perfect 13-for-13 at the free-throw line, answering every West Alabama push in a tightly contested Gulf South Conference matchup that featured nine lead changes and seven ties. The Argonauts trailed by one at halftime before outscoring the Tigers 42–38 in the second half to secure the upset victory.
Aric Demings led the Argos with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting, adding four assists and two blocks, while
Elijah Wyche finished with 15 points, six assists, and five rebounds.
Tim Hall Jr. posted a strong all-around performance with 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Shahar Lazar chipped in 13 points off the bench, helping UWF outscore West Alabama 20–10 in bench production.
West Florida built a nine-point lead midway through the second half, but the Tigers closed the gap late. With the score tied at 74 in the final minute, Demings converted a key basket in the paint before sealing the win with another layup in the closing seconds. UWF forced a contested three-point attempt at the buzzer to preserve the victory.
The Argonauts will now travel to Huntsville, Alabama to take on UAH on Friday, January 23. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. Live stats and broadcast will be available on GoArgos.com.
