NASHVILLE, Tenn. — West Florida men's tennis players Mark Neyelov and Goncalo Quintela finished as doubles finalists at the ASUN Men's Tennis Individual Tournament on Saturday, earning a spot in the ITA Conference Masters Championships next month.
Competing at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center on the campus of Lipscomb University, the UWF duo advanced through the doubles draw before falling in a tightly contested championship match, 8-7.
Despite coming up just short of the conference title, Neyelov and Quintela secured a place in the ITA Conference Masters Championships after the ASUN received an additional entry into the tournament. The selection allows the Argonauts to compete on the national stage during the program's inaugural Division I season.
The ITA Conference Masters Championships bring together representatives from NCAA Division I conferences across the country, with participants competing for an opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Division I Individual Championships.
Neyelov and Quintela will return to action Nov. 5-8 at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia. The doubles teams that reach the championship match will earn qualification for the NCAA Division I Doubles Championship.
