TYLER, Tex. - The University of West Florida men's tennis team edged UT Tyler 4-3 on Friday in the first match of the GSC/Lonestar Crossover Tournament. This victory marked a top-five win for the Argonauts, who swept all three doubles matches to secure the crucial doubles point in the closely contested match.

The Argos secured the doubles point with a clean sweep over UT Tyler, capturing all three matches. At No. 1 doubles, Sebastian Rondon and Diego Duran defeated Daniil Felker and Carel Wessel 6-4. Vicente Couto and Mark Neyelov clinched their match at No. 2 doubles with another 6-4 victory against Artiom Dorofeev and Malo Poulesquen. Rounding out the doubles competition, Rafael Sabio and Goncalo Quintela dominated at No. 3 doubles, winning 6-1 against Job Japelj and Trevor Short.

In singles, UT Tyler evened the overall score by winning three of the six matches. Rondon of West Florida collected a win at No. 1 singles, overcoming Dorofeev 6-7(12), 6-0, 6-4. Duran added another point for West Florida with a straight-set win at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-4 over Poulesquen. However, UT Tyler responded with victories at No. 3 singles, where Wessel outlasted Neyelov 7-6(8), 6-3, and at No. 4 singles, where Samuel Antwi defeated Sabio 6-4, 6-2.

Couto of West Florida faced Jordi Garcia Portell at No. 5 singles but fell short in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 2-6. Quintela secured the final singles point for West Florida, winning at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 6-4 scoreline against Martin Despodov. The competition ended in a 3-3 singles split, leaving the doubles point as the decisive factor in West Florida's overall victory.
