UWF Takes Midweek Game Over Spring Hill

MOBILE, Ala. — The University of West Florida took an 11–6 victory over Spring Hill College on Tuesday night at Sims-Galle Field.

UWF opened the scoring in the first inning with Gustavo Mendez singling up the middle and later scoring on Tyler Brobst's two-RBI single. William Lybrook and Trent Kelly also crossed the plate, giving the Argos a 3–0 lead. 

In the third inning, Mendez and Lybrook reached base, setting up Brobst for a two-RBI triple. A throwing error allowed Brobst to score, extending the Argos lead. Spring Hill responded with three runs, closing the gap to 6–4. 

Mendez extended the lead in the fourth with a two-run homer, bringing Jake Cooper home. The Argos held Spring Hill scoreless, staying ahead at 8-4. Zack Stokes added to the tally with a solo homer in the sixth. Spring Hill responded with two more runs of their own. The seventh inning saw Jay Henderson scoring on a single by Gann Nobles, making it 10-6 for UWF. In the ninth, Jed Jones scored on a single by Greg Pettay after reaching on a walk. The Argos kept Spring Hill off the board, securing the win. 

Christian Pencek started the game for UWF, pitching 2.1 innings. Braden Rapp delivered a strong performance in relief, pitching 2.2 scoreless innings, striking out five while allowing only two hits. Blake Thomas provided a brief but effective outing, striking out one in his 1/3 inning appearance without allowing any hits. Michael Vice and Zach Nelson finished with scoreless innings, with Nelson striking out one and Vice allowing just one hit. Tucker Jackson closed with one inning of work, inducing two groundouts and allowing one hit without surrendering a run.

The Argos will host Lee University at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 3, at Jim Spooner Field.
